Job summary

American Airlines is seeking an IT leader within the Information Technology Division to drive infrastructure services for application teams. You will collaborate with business and IT leadership to define vision, priorities, and roadmaps, while ensuring agile project management, analysis, and QA processes are consistently applied.

Your role includes removing roadblocks, building alliances, and guiding cost-effective solutions across enterprise teams, with a focus on stable production environments

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a technical field.
  • 7 years of related experience designing, planning, and implementing technology solutions.
  • 5 years of leadership experience overseeing large technology projects.

  • This job is a member of the Information Technology Team, within the Information Technology Division.
  • This position is responsible for effectively managing Infrastructure services provided to application teams within American Airlines IT.
What You'll Do
  • Collaborates with Business and IT leadership to determine and communicate vision, direction, and work priorities, and drives progress towards technology target roadmaps
  • Ensures that sound agile project management, business analysis, and quality assurance processes are in place and practiced
  • Removes roadblocks, cultivates relationships, and effectively communicates across Enterprise at various levels of leadership
  • Defines a sustainable engagement process for project teams to work with Customer Technology Infrastructure
  • Conceive solutions, build consensus, and execute solutions
  • Proactively recommends courses of action to maintain cost effectiveness and competitiveness; identifies opportunities and recommends solutions for improving service efficiency and effectiveness
  • Proactively identifies troublesome trends as they develop; analyze/predicts trends and develop a long-range plan designed to resolve problems and prevent them from recurring
  • Ensures a stable production environment for applications being supported and reviews high impact outages to ensure the proper processes and procedures are in place to avoid future occurrences
  • Participates in various IT projects intended to continually improve/upgrade the infrastructure, such as evaluation of new software and hardware required to meet a business need or to make a process more cost effective.
  • Manages and leads adoption and migration of new and emerging technologies
  • Works extended hours occassionally, based on the needs of the project and operational support
All you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training
  • 7 years of related experience in environments designing, planning, and implementing solutions using the latest technology
  • 5 years of leadership experience overseeing large technology projects from inception to implementation in an enterprise environment
Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training
  • 3+ years of experience working with external vendors, negotiating services, and monitoring delivery of those services
  • Airline industry experience, including business process and supporting technology
Skills, Licenses & Certifications
  • Proven ability to build, cultivate, and promote strong relationships with internal customers at all levels of the organization, as well as with IT counterparts, business partners, and external groups
  • Proficiency with managing multiple technically complex projects and implementations
  • Experience working with Agile project management methodologies and tools
  • Experience in DevOps Toolchain methodologies, including Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment
  • Thorough understanding of distributed systems architecture and exposure to multiple technical disciplines including:
    • Unix, Linux and Windows
    • Databases
    • High-Availability, Redundancy, Clustering, Disaster Recovery, Load Balancing
    • Hardware platforms and Networking
  • Ability to conduct and prepare feasibility studies; develop outsourcing proposals and Service Level Agreements (SLAs), including estimates for costs, time, and resources; prepare statistical reports; complete cost/benefit analyses; and conduct business
  • Ability to lead teams, work cross-functionally, and build consensus on difficult issues, as well as demonstrated technical and business leadership
  • Ability to effectively adapt to rapidly changing technology and apply it to business needs
  • Ability to thrive in a sense-of-urgency environment and leverage best practices
  • Knowledge of enterprise business and business processes; knowledge of business unit functions and cross-group dependencies/relationships
  • Ability to anticipate user requirements and identify and resolve complex problems
  • Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and ability to adapt to changing priorities and work environments
