Job description

Responsibilities

The Manager - IT Disaster Recovery will establish, maintain and oversee a fully functional IT Disaster Program including disaster recovery planning, IT risk assessment, disaster recovery exercises, and ongoing initiatives to enhance IT recoverability capabilities. The Manager will partner with other IT members to provide standardized end‑to‑end support and act as the primary focal point for all IT Disaster Recovery related functions. The role is responsible for ongoing development and maturation of Disaster Recovery processes, ensuring compliance with enterprise processes, defining roles and responsibilities, and writing policies, procedures, and workflows related to Disaster Recovery.

In this role you will:

  • Develop and maintain an IT Disaster Recovery Program
  • Consult on the development of Disaster Recovery Plans and runbooks for business‑critical applications
  • Monitor deployment and changes of applications and infrastructure for impacts to Disaster Recovery‑related contingency planning
  • Ensure Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) are met in exercises
  • Guide and provide work direction to IT subject matter experts in Disaster Recovery
  • Participate in Disaster Recovery Exercises to ensure vendors recover critical services provided to GMF
  • Participate in ongoing review of Disaster Recovery scope services and support to align with budget planning
  • Assess technical risk and provide timely mitigation and remediation plans
  • Evaluate new technology and tools and build business cases for their use
  • Participate in cross‑functional reviews and identify high‑risk areas pertaining to Disaster Recovery scope
  • Understand integration of people, processes and tools within the overall delivery environment and determine best strategic and tactical approach to continually improve processes and services
  • Assess current state and prioritize improvements to existing Disaster Recovery work
  • Coordinate with Business Continuity teams to ensure business expectations are met
  • Provide support for the approved Mass Notification system to IT stakeholders
  • Help maintain Knowledge Management System and Knowledge Document repository with relevant Disaster Recovery content, including Enterprise Process Improvement, Policy and Procedure, Quality control and process compliance auditing, ITSM/ITIL Gap Analysis and CMMI‑ITIL Maturity Assessments
  • Assist with Availability Management, Business Continuity Management and other collateral processes, ensuring that all ITSM process touch points and interfaces to Disaster Recovery are working effectively
Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of disaster recovery and business continuity processes and tools
  • Broad understanding of information technology to assist in preparation of recovery procedures for all areas
  • Advanced knowledge of industry‑standard disaster recovery planning techniques and technologies and methods used in performing risk analyses and business impact analysis
  • Knowledge of local and wide area networking concepts, principles and protocols
  • Knowledge of infrastructure design and management
  • Working knowledge of management processes such as personnel administration, planning and budgeting
  • Understanding of IT Service Management (ITSM) best practices and processes
  • ITIL certification or equivalent experience (ITIL v3 Foundation strongly preferred; intermediate ITIL Service Transition, Service Design, ITIL Service & Support, ITIL Availability Management or ITIL Service Level Management desired)
  • Experience with Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery and related initiatives
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP, OSI model and IP subnetting
  • High‑level understanding of technology infrastructure, security concepts and platforms
  • Demonstrated success in project management
  • Understanding of routing and switching protocols as they relate to load balancing
  • Strong understanding of application layer protocols including HTTP, SSH, SSL, and DNS
  • Skillful adaptation to a constantly changing business and IT environment
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership abilities working with cross‑functional teams
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to think strategically and make collaborative decisions
  • Effective planning, time management, negotiation and delegation skills
  • Advanced technical writing
  • Experience in documentation tools such as Visio and Microsoft Office products
  • Advanced experience with Network and VLAN segmentation
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Creative, innovative problem‑solving and maximizing potential to solve problems and improve methods
  • Business Continuity Professional certification preferred
  • Flexible schedule with possible working long hours, weekends/holidays, occasional overtime may be required
  • Travel may be required to support business needs
Additional Knowledge and Skills
  • Ability to use AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot) to support daily work
  • Skills in evaluating AI outputs for accuracy, compliance and bias
  • Experience integrating AI into workflows to improve efficiency or insights
  • Familiarity with AI assisted research, summarization and content generation
  • Understanding of responsible AI use, including ethics and data protection
Work Experience & Education
  • 3–5 years of experience in disaster recovery/business continuity planning life cycle methodology (Preferred)
  • Experience in leading or managing teams (Preferred)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Required)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent work or military experience (Preferred)
