Job summary

Security Benefit is hiring a Manager, Investment Accounting – Reporting & Audit to lead end-to-end audit ownership and the preparation of investment disclosures. The role supports multiple entities, with hybrid work options in Overland Park, KS, and a focus on coordinating close, consolidations, and process improvements.

You will mentor a team, partner with external auditors, and ensure strong control documentation while maintaining effective cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
• 8+ years of investment accounting or financial reporting experience.
• CPA preferred or actively in process.
• Prior supervisory or management experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and consolidation accounting principles.
• Experience with investment-related ERP systems (PeopleSoft preferred).
• Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple audit and reporting cycles.
• Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite (advanced Excel required).
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with all levels of management.

Responsibilities

• Oversee preparation of investment and fair value footnotes and disclosures.
• Manage consolidated QTD/YTD investment, equity, and cash flow rollforwards.
• Review deferred G/L analysis, NCI documentation, consolidation tagging entries, and regulatory reporting.
• Coordinate with external audit teams and internal stakeholders to resolve open items and maintain control docs.
• Develop, mentor, and manage a team of reporting and audit accountants; set priorities and review work.
• Coordinate with Accounting Operations on cross-functional close and consolidation deliverables.
• Drive continuous improvement of reporting processes, internal controls, and documentation standards.

About the Role:

As a Manager, Investment Accounting – Reporting & Audit, you’ll be an integral part of a collaborative, agile team. You’ll design, analyze, and implement innovative solutions that drive efficiency and exceed expectations.

The Manager, Reporting & Audit position reports to the Senior Manager, and can be based out of Overland Park, Kansas, or remotely for the right candidate. We work a hybrid schedule, offering flexibility to work both remotely and on-site.

• Lead end-to-end audit ownership across multiple entities (EI, EWS, Combined, FINCO, and Crawford), including PBC preparation, audit confirmations, and response to interim and year-end auditor inquiries.
• Oversee the preparation of investment and fair value footnotes and disclosures for both EI and EWS consolidated financial statements.
• Manage the preparation of consolidated QTD/YTD investment, equity, and cash flow rollforward schedules.
• Direct the review of deferred G/L analysis, NCI documentation, consolidation tagging entries, and regulatory reporting requirements.
• Partner with external audit teams and internal stakeholders to coordinate audit logistics, resolve open items, and maintain strong control documentation.
• Develop, mentor, and manage a team of reporting and audit accountants; set priorities, review work product, and support professional development.
• Coordinate with Accounting Operations on cross-functional close and consolidation deliverables.
• Drive continuous improvement of reporting processes, internal controls, and documentation standards.

What We’re Looking For:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
