Job Description Summary: | At the George Washington University (GW), the International Services Office (ISO) fosters global educational exchange, serving as the central administrative and advising hub for the international community.
We are seeking a Manager, International Student and Scholar Advising who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative setting. Working within the ISO, this role manages F-1 and J-1 immigration compliance, oversees ISO Admissions and Exchange programs, and provides direct supervision for two full-time staff members. Key responsibilities include interpreting regulations and signing critical immigration documents for initial attendance, school transfers, extensions, employment authorizations, re-entry, and status changes.
This position is responsible for the following duties: Reviews, approves, and prepares I-20 and DS-2019 forms, monitors the maintenance of student data and records in SEVIS, and provides holistic advising to international students and scholars regarding immigration and maintaining compliance. Assists with the development, integration and implementation of institutional policy in regard to sponsorship of international students. Oversees the Exchange Coordinator, inbound international student exchanges, supporting agreements, and relationships with exchange partners. Oversees the Senior International Services Associate, serving as the advisory point of contact for International Admissions processed by the International Services Office. Provides daily oversight of J-1 Scholar requests, J orientations and departmental inquiries. Participates in welcome center check-ins, orientation sessions and programs to assist students in their ongoing adjustment to the university and to the U.S. Leads Exchange Coordinator to provide support to exchange program universities. Represents the International Services Office at internal and external meetings as required by the Assistant Provost and/or Associate Director.
Perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 6 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 4 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Ability to work in a complex, fast-paced environment, handle a large workload, and handle multiple priorities. Demonstrate excellent verbal and written English skills, as well as organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment. Commitment to client confidentiality and strong service orientation. Supervisory/management experience in a higher education setting is preferred. Experience as a PDSO, DSO, RO and/or ARO or work with university exchange programs is preferred. Significant practical experience with international students and scholar advising (F, J) at institutions of higher education, and knowledge of exchange processes is preferred.
