Job description

Location: US TX Houston - Corporate Office

Department: Legal

About Us

The Caturus platform founded by Kimmeridge – an alternative asset manager focused on the energy sector – supports Kimmeridge’s overarching goal of providing low-cost energy on demand with the lowest carbon footprint.

Kimmeridge’s vision in creating Caturus is to build the only independent, fully integrated natural gas and LNG export platform in the U.S. through a combination of its upstream operations and via Commonwealth LNG, a 9.5 million tonnes per annum liquefied natural gas export terminal in southwestern Louisiana on the U.S. Gulf Coast. The combined entities are committed to delivering responsibly sourced, low-emission fuel to domestic and international markets.

Caturus is a Houston-based, private exploration and production company seeking to materially grow production through development of deep, high pressure, dry gas windows of the Eagle Ford and Austin Chalk, as well as Haynesville formations located in Texas and Louisiana while maintaining a relentless focus on safety.

Commonwealth LNG was founded by industry veterans who decided to re-engineer the LNG construction model. Using proven best practices, Commonwealth is committed to building a world-class LNG export facility while focusing on safety, managing risk and achieving best-in-class environmental standards.

Job Description
Position Summary

The Manager, Internal Audit and Compliance (IAC) is the Director/Chief Audit Executive’s principal partner in the department. IAC is a new function within Caturus, so processes and standards are still being developed. This is a hands-on, builder role that will help establish those processes and standards.

The role will move between internal audit work and compliance program work, as the plan requires, while maintaining appropriate independence between the Internal Audit and Compliance functions. Typical work will include ongoing assessment of the company’s risk environment, designing and leading internal audits, helping to manage co-sourcing partners (both Internal Audit and Sarbanes‑Oxley (SOX)) and building out the company’s Internal Audit and Compliance processes. The Manager serves as the Director's designee in the Director's absence and helps represent IAC to management and the external auditors.

Key Accountabilities
  • Lead and manage financial, operational, compliance, and information technology audit engagements.
  • Develop risk‑based audit scopes, testing plans, and work programs.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls and identify opportunities for process improvement across Upstream, Marketing and Trading, Downstream/LNG and Shared Services.
  • Draft clear, risk‑rated audit reports and recommendations. Agree management action plans and track them to closure.
  • Assess compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Ensure audit projects are completed on schedule and in accordance with internal audit standards.
  • Identify and assess key business, operational, financial, and regulatory risks.
  • Evaluate the adequacy of mitigation strategies and control activities.
  • Provide recommendations to strengthen governance, risk management, and internal controls.
  • SOX compliance program, including risk assessments, control testing, documentation reviews, and deficiency evaluation.
  • Coordinate with external auditors regarding control testing and audit requirements.
  • Assist management in maintaining an effective control environment and addressing control gaps.
  • Leverage company‑sanctioned Artificial Intelligence tools to improve the control environment and efficiently manage resources.
  • Assist the Director in managing Internal Audit and SOX co‑source partners.
Qualifications
Education, Certificates, and Licenses
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Preferred (any of): Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)
Experience
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in internal audit, public accounting, risk management, compliance, or related functions.
  • Experience within the energy, oil & gas, midstream, LNG, commodities trading, or infrastructure sectors preferred. Exposure to SOX and Internal Controls Over Financial Reporting (ICFR).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience leading audit engagements and interacting with senior management.
  • IIA Global Internal Audit Standards, COSO Internal Control and Enterprise Risk Management frameworks, and risk‑based audit methodology
  • US GAAP and financial reporting controls. Working knowledge of SOX 404, PCAOB expectations, and ICFR documentation and testing
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office, SharePoint, and data analysis or visualization tools (Power BI, SQL, or similar)
  • Ability to manage multiple engagements, budgets, and vendors at once
