Our overarching goal is to end homelessness among youth and young families by helping them achieve housing stability, heal from trauma, tap into their innate resilience, and hone their interests and skills to forge new pathways to independence. This work is carried out across Covenant House sites in 34 cities in the US, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras.

About the Role

The Manager, Institutional Funding reports to the VP, Institutional Funding. You will support and expand Covenant House International’s private and corporate foundation sources of support for youth and young families facing homelessness. You will work closely with the Key Partnerships team to strategize and maximize funding opportunities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Identify and research new private and corporate foundation prospects—including through daily monitoring of Inside Philanthropy, Philanthropy News Digest, etc.—and coordinate strategy once viable prospects are identified.
  2. Maintain a portfolio of foundations, identifying and stewarding relationships with foundation representatives to deepen and grow funding for CHI and affiliates.
  3. Identify opportunities for stewardship and assist with outreach and communications to institutional donors at key moments, ensuring strong donor engagement.
  4. Use EveryAction, Asana, and other tools to track grants, reporting deadlines, and team progress toward fundraising goals, while also completing administrative tasks related to institutional giving and donor relations.
  5. Work and strategize with the Key Partnerships team and others in the organization to help meet and exceed annual fundraising goals for institutional giving.
  6. Represent Covenant House in meetings, site visits, phone conversations, and events, as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to translate passion into compelling cases for support.
  2. Outstanding organizational skills.
  3. Experience using a relationship management system/donor database/CRM and expertise with Microsoft Office.
  4. Team player, with ability to work with all levels of the organization.
  5. Flexible schedule for occasional weekend or evening events or deadlines.
  6. Dedicated to the mission of Covenant House.

Required Qualifications

  1. 3-5 years’ experience in grant writing and working with private and/or corporate foundations.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Qualifications

  1. Experience working with vulnerable populations.
  2. Bilingual in Spanish with strong written and verbal communication.

Travel Requirements

  1. Ability to travel twice per year to New York City for our two annual in-person traditions: our Staff Day of Renewal in September and our Holiday Celebration in January.
  2. Outside of the Staff Day of Renewal and Holiday Celebration, this position is 100% remote.
