Summary
The Manager in Training assists the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager with overall operations and administrative duties. Bringing knowledge of all product areas, the role supports action plans for sales, restocking, merchandising, ordering, and scheduling. When the Store Manager is absent, the Manager in Training assumes supervisory control, upholding policies, procedures, and standards listed in the visual, operations, personnel, and customer‑service manuals. The position promotes outstanding customer service, champions Hibbett’s merchandise, and protects company assets and financial information.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager in controlling the assets of Hibbett.
- Consult with the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager to establish action plans to accomplish departmental and overall store responsibilities such as selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, and scheduling.
- Assume responsibility for the entire store in the absence of the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager.
- Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers in all departments when necessary.
- Maintain awareness of inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to ensure profitability.
- Direct staff to ensure each department’s responsibilities and standards are completed.
- Keep the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
- Assert that quality customer service is maintained.
- Perform general administrative duties as needed and receive training in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
- Produce extraordinary customer service highlighted in the customer‑service manual, including assisting customers as they enter the store and managing multiple customers during peak periods.
- Promote and sell services and merchandise provided by Hibbett.
- Practice and uphold all Hibbett policies, procedures, and standards as listed in the operations, personnel, visual, and customer‑service manuals, and memos with company direction.
- Protect the company’s assets and financial information by ensuring accuracy and effectiveness of internal control procedures and informing management of potential fraud risk.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise employees in the absence of the Store Manager. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, training, planning, assigning, directing work, and resolving problems.
Qualifications
- Experience working in a retail environment, preferably in footwear and athletic apparel.
- 1–3 years of customer service experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
- Self‑starter with initiative to tackle important tasks without being asked.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with precision.
- Team‑player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.
