The Salvation Army in Indiana is offering a Manager in Training (MIT) program designed to prepare candidates for a Store Manager role. This structured 12-week leadership experience covers store operations, supervision, and performance management.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 2 years retail experience (thrift experience a plus).
• Valid Driver's License.
• Basic computer proficiency including POS systems.
• Ability to pass pre-employment background check.

Responsibilities

• Lead recruitment, training, and supervision of store staff.
• Learn scheduling, payroll review, and employee relations practices.
• Provide coaching and support to team members and program participants.
• Learn donation intake, product sorting, pricing, and merchandising.
• Support strategies to meet production and sales goals.
• Assist with maintaining store appearance, safety, and compliance standards.
• Deliver excellent customer service and create a positive shopping environment.
• Support customer engagement and retention efforts.
• Model positive interactions for store staff.
• Learn cash handling procedures and daily deposit processes.
• Support inventory tracking and loss prevention practices.
• Assist with maintaining store operations within budget.
• Review daily sales and production metrics.
• Communicate with store leadership and regional partners.
• Support reporting and operational updates.

What You’ll Do

  Required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
