The Homefeed is the primary surface users see when they open the app, forming the core of the Pinterest experience for over 500 million Pinners monthly. The Homefeed team aims to recommend inspiring and engaging pins. We are seeking a Machine Learning Engineer Engineering Manager II to lead the team's technical direction, strategic planning, and execution. You will lead a team working on innovative projects, building large-scale, low-latency systems, and deploying advanced machine learning models that significantly impact our users and business metrics.

What you'll do:

• Own major aspects of Homefeed Recommendations for over 500 million monthly active users, including retrieval (ML-based retrieval, candidate generation, sequence modeling) and ranking (multi-domain ranking, feature interactions, pretraining and finetuning, relevance modeling, efficiency improvements).


• Understand the Pinterest Home product deeply and set the vision for the Homefeed team to align with company goals.


• Manage and mentor a team of Machine Learning engineers (L13 - L16), providing technical guidance, supporting career growth, and hiring top talent.


• Collaborate with other teams such as Advanced Technology Group, ML Infrastructure, and Content Understanding to enhance the user experience.


• Provide visibility to senior leadership on the team's impact.


• Partner with product management, data scientists, and designers to shape content personalization and ecosystem strategies.


• Foster a culture of excellence and continuous learning within the team.

What we're looking for:

• MS/PhD in Computer Science, ML, NLP, Statistics, or related fields, or equivalent experience.


• Experience leading large-scale recommendation, search, or ads systems using state-of-the-art ML and big data technologies.


• Strong expertise in recommendation systems and applied ML; experience with NLP and computer vision is a plus.


• Proven ability to define and execute strategic roadmaps for scalable, production systems.


• Focus on product impact and user experience in consumer environments.


• At least 1 year as an engineering manager or technical lead in a high-performing ML team of 10+ members.


• 8+ years in software development with a track record of impactful solutions.
