Job description

SUMMARY

This position will lead all aspects of industrial safety, health, and environmental systems for the facility. He/she will be responsible for the development, implementation, and monitoring of EHS programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This position will coordinate all environmental and safety training to meet regulations and internal program requirements and maintain records in cooperation with other facility resources including operations and human resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the environmental management process, including chemical inventory, waste streams, and other relevant data required for permit submission and compliance.
  • Assist departments with processing reports, investigations, and spill reports, ensuring necessary supplies such as spill kits, first aid supplies, and proper training are available.
  • Manage the hazard communication program.
  • Review new chemicals and maintain chemical inventory information to ensure accurate location of allowable quantities for new applications and project activities.
  • Review packing slips for incoming chemicals to ensure compliance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Monitor and maintain documentation and permits required by regulations, preparing related documents for signature in a timely manner.
  • Update and maintain safety metrics and databases.
  • Conduct safety inspections of workspaces, equipment, and operations, making recommendations for safety improvements.
  • Conduct accident/incident investigations and reenactments to identify root causes, develop and propose corrective solutions to prevent recurrence, and work with appropriate personnel to implement these solutions.
  • Implement and lead plant Safety and Environmental Committees, making recommendations to management.
  • Respond to and aid in all emergency situations.
  • Conduct risk assessments for new processes and equipment, taking steps to prevent any hazardous conditions.
  • Utilize safety by design, hazard analysis/job safety, and EHS practice integration techniques to resolve hazards and exposures in operational processes.
  • Ensure that Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is appropriate, available, and in good working order for employee use.
  • Implement new hire onboarding programs to maximize engagement and safety.
  • Coordinate and lead safety committee meetings on a monthly basis.
  • Partner with other functions and serve as lead EHS for plant projects.
  • Support and provide guidance to plant leadership.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum 7 years of related work experience in environmental, health and safety in a manufacturing facility.

Physical Demand and Work Environment:

This position works in a manufacturing environment typically indoors but may require access to outdoors for work at times and includes exposure to dust particles. The position requires a person to be able to frequently walk, stand, bend and twist; see, hear, and talk; use fingers and hands, with good hand and finger dexterity to handle or feel controls or product; use hands and arms to reach, hold and carry product. Lifting/moving up to 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 70 lbs. is required. Exposure to elevated heights up to 20 feet. This position also requires a person to handle different temperatures as the Warehouse is hot in the summer and cooler in the winter. This position may also require a person to stand for long periods of time, up to 10 hours. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required to be worn during the shift.
