Job summary

Aecon is seeking an experienced Human Resources leader to support our growing U.S. Civil business. Based in Kent, WA, this role partners with leaders to provide strategic and day-to-day HR leadership across mobilization, employee relations, performance management, and workforce planning.

The successful candidate will translate business priorities into practical people strategies, lead an HR team, and ensure compliance with U.S. employment laws. Hybrid work and regular travel are expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors in HR, business or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 8–10 years of progressive HR partnership supporting U.S. operations.
  • People leadership experience of at least 3 years.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as trusted HR advisor to leaders and align people strategies with project priorities.
  • Lead day-to-day HR function, set priorities, coach performance, ensure HR support.
  • Support project mobilization, staffing plans, onboarding, deployment, and scalable HR processes.
  • Provide guidance on employee relations and compliance with laws and policies.
  • Coach on performance management, talent development, and succession planning.
  • Lead talent reviews and succession discussions with business impact.
  • Collaborate with Talent Acquisition on workforce plans and onboarding.
  • Coordinate with Total Rewards on compensation, benefits, and learning.
  • Use HR data to identify trends and maintain HRIS data quality.
  • Participate in leadership meetings and communicate HR updates.

What is the Opportunity?

Aecon is seeking an experienced Human Resources leader to support our growing U.S. Civil business. Based in Kent, Washington, this role will partner closely with operational leaders and provide strategic and day-to-day HR leadership across project mobilization, employee relations, performance management, workforce planning, talent development, organizational effectiveness, and compliance with applicable U.S. employment laws and company policies.

The successful candidate will help build workforce readiness for major infrastructure opportunities. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can translate business priorities into practical people strategies, establish effective HR practices in a fast-moving project environment, and lead an HR team with clear accountability.

What You'll Do Here
  • Trusted HR advisor to U.S. Civil operational and functional leaders, connecting people strategies to business and project priorities.
  • Lead day-to-day HR function for the team including setting priorities, coaching performance, and ensuring consistent delivery of HR support.
  • Support project mobilization and workforce readiness, including organizational design, staffing plans, onboarding, deployment, and the establishment of scalable HR processes for new project teams.
  • Provide informed guidance on employee relations matters and work with leaders to address issues promptly, consistently, and in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local employment requirements.
  • Coach leaders through performance management, objective setting, talent development, succession planning, and organizational effectiveness initiatives.
  • Lead or support talent reviews and succession discussions, with a focus on practical actions, leadership capability, and business continuity.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition and hiring leaders on workforce plans, critical searches, candidate assessment, and effective onboarding.
  • Collaborate with Total Rewards and other HR centers of expertise on compensation, benefits, learning, policy, and enterprise program implementation.
  • Use HR data and workforce insights to identify trends, support decisions, and maintain strong HRIS data quality and reporting discipline.
  • Participate in leadership meetings, project reviews, and employee communications, providing clear and timely HR updates.
  • Build trusted relationships across a matrixed organization and, where applicable, navigate partner, consortium, or joint venture environments with sound judgment and political awareness.
  • Travel regularly to U.S. project locations.
What You Bring To The Team
  • A bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 8 to 10 years of progressive HR business partnering experience supporting U.S.-based operations.
  • Experience supporting project mobilization, construction, infrastructure, engineering, EPC, energy, utilities, or another field-based operating environment is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of people leadership experience is required, including direct accountability for leading, coaching, and developing HR team members.
  • Broad HR business partnering experience across the employee life cycle, including employee relations, performance management, workforce planning, talent management, compensation, recruitment, and organizational development.
  • Working knowledge of applicable U.S. federal employment requirements and the ability to partner effectively on state and local compliance matters.
  • Experience working in a matrixed organization; joint venture, consortium, or multi-partner project experience is an asset.
  • Strong business judgment, resilience, and the ability to resolve complex people issues with speed, discretion, and practical.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to advise and influence leaders at multiple levels.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, attention to detail, and disciplined use of HR systems and workforce data.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with SAP or another enterprise HRIS is an asset.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to U.S. project sites and work in a hybrid, office, and field-facing environment.

The expected pay range for this role is $120,000 - $130,000 per year.

Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
