Responsibilities
Working closely with the Chief People Officer, Operations leadership (Vice President of Operations, Directors of Operations, and General Managers), this position serves as a strategic business partner and achieves strong results in employee relations, team member development and culture. As an HR Manager, you will support 50 to 60 amazing BJ's premium casual dining restaurants in a multi-state environment. You will also partner with the broader People Team and Operations to support initiatives and consult on employee relations, policy and procedure compliance, performance management, talent management and culture. The HR Manager collaborates with their region of Operations to ensure effective recruitment and engagement to help attract and retain top talent within the organization both internally and externally.
Business Partnership
- As an integral part of the People Team and the regional operations team, this role serves as a strategic HR partner with strong subject matter expertise. Builds and maintains high-quality relationships with General Managers, Directors of Operations, and Vice President of Operations through frequent, effective communication and restaurant visits
- Reviews and analyzes data to identify trends and recommend solutions to improve performance, retention, and employee experience
- Serves as an ambassador of the broader People Team, builds rapport and a trusted relationship with all levels of team members. As a collaborative team member, brings meaningful insights and recommendations back to the broader People Team for process improvement
- Collaborates with senior operations leaders and other functional departments to facilitate manager development opportunities and training in the areas of performance management, conflict resolution, team member engagement, relevant employment laws, and respectful workplace
Employee Relations
- Identifies and/or conducts timely and thorough investigations into team member concerns; provides appropriate recommendations for actions following the investigation when applicable
- Comprehensively documents and maintains records of complaints and claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, manager misconduct, and wage-and-hour violations in accordance with BJ’s policies, practices and procedures and applicable federal and state law
- Tracks and analyzes team member relations issue trends, diagnose root causes, and develop recommendations for corrective strategies
- Provides consultation, guidance, and coaching to ensure the consistent interpretation, application and resolution of employment issues, in the areas of performance management, state/federal labor laws, conflict resolution and termination procedures in accordance with BJ’s polices, practices and procedures including the Team Member Handbook and BJ’s Code of Integrity, Ethics and Conduct
- Investigates and prepare BJ’s response to federal and state agency complaints associated with alleged violations of federal and state employment laws in consultation with BJ’s General Counsel
- Maintains working knowledge of both federal and state wage-and-hour laws, including minimum wage tip credit, overtime, rest and meal break, and final pay provisions, for assigned region
- Partners with operations leaders regarding leave of absence and disability accommodation inquiries to ensure compliance with federal and state leave of absence and disability laws and policies
Development and Culture
- Conducts in-field training meetings and round tables to advance manager knowledge and skills Participates in the development and facilitation of ad hoc training for operations leadership
- Provides coaching to build leadership capabilities to address and resolve team member issues, acting as a role-model of desired behavior. Serves as a steward of our Company culture
- Monitors team member engagement levels, analyzes and identify trends which impact retention. Proactively communicates findings and offers solutions that will lead to improved team member satisfaction and lower turnover
- Coordinates and analyzes team member engagement surveys for assigned region
- Assists with other projects as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and five (5) to eight (8) years of Employee Relations or Human Resources Manager/Business Partner experience
- Considerable knowledge of principles and best practices of Human Resource administration, policy interpretation and conflict resolution
- Experience with multi-unit, multi-state organizations
- Excellent organization and time management skills. Capable of effective planning and priority setting
- Strong interpersonal skills, problem solving skills, verbal skills and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, while working under pressure to meet deadlines
- High sense of urgency and understanding of confidentiality/privacy requirements
- Willingness to travel to assigned region on a regular basis for investigations and training and/or relocate within several years to city central to assigned region
- Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Workday preferred
- Bi-lingual in English and Spanish preferred
Pay Range
USD $110,000.00 - USD $130,000.00 /Yr.
