Job summary

Maguire Automotive Group is seeking a Human Resources/Payroll Manager to lead HR policy development and administer payroll across the organization at its Ithaca, NY location. The role partners with leadership to align HR programs with strategic objectives and supports staffing decisions and workforce planning.

The position requires extensive HR experience, a strong understanding of employment law, and a track record of leading HR initiatives across multiple locations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in HR management, Business Administration or related field.
  • Ten (10) years of experience in Human Resources with at least five (5) years at the management level.
  • Certification in Human Resources (SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP and/or PHR/SPHR) preferred.
  • Basic understanding of the health care industry desired.
  • Current knowledge of State and Federal employment law, including practical application and interpretation.
  • Experience as a key member of a leadership team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional HR support across employment, payroll, safety, employee relations, benefits, compensation, unemployment and workers’ compensation, and training.
  • Maintain HR documentation and records including employee files and onboarding/offboarding paperwork.
  • Oversee payroll processes and manage the payroll coordinator.
  • Lead talent acquisition strategy and collaborate with leadership to source top talent.
  • Coordinate pre-employment testing such as background checks and drug testing.
  • Develop and implement HR policies, update the Employee Handbook, and support HR initiatives across locations.
  • Maintain SOPs with internal controls and ownership of HR processes.
  • Address employee relations issues with sound judgement and appropriate stakeholder involvement.
  • Coach and guide employees and managers on HR matters including interviewing, hiring, performance reviews, and safety.
  • Manage employee leaves, workers’ comp, and unemployment claims.
  • Collaborate with brokers and vendors on compensation and benefits regulations.
  • Maintain an effective performance management program aligned with company culture.
  • Stay informed on employment laws and ensure compliance across the organization.
  • Promote corporate values and culture with leadership.

Job Summary:

The Human Resources/Payroll Manager develops, implements, and administers all HR policies and procedures. This position will provide leadership, planning, and oversight of all HR programs and ensure that the programs support and reflect the company’s strategic objectives. This position partners closely with leadership, makes recommendations regarding a broad range of staffing and personnel matters, and executes accordingly.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: (Additional duties as assigned)

  • Provide professional human resource support in a variety of areas to include employment, payroll, safety, employee relations, benefits, compensation, unemployment and worker’s compensation, and training.
  • Maintain HR documentation and records, including employee personnel files, processing onboarding and off-boarding paperwork, recording changes in job classifications, salary increases, etc.
  • Oversee the Company’s payroll process and procedures and manage the payroll coordinator.
  • Oversee the Company’s talent acquisition strategy. Consult and develop the management team to utilize a variety of recruiting channels to creatively source top talent in support of the organization’s growth.
  • Provide staffing support to all departments on successfully recruiting qualified candidates for open positions, as well as coordinate pre-employment testing such as background checks and drug testing.
  • Develop and implement human resource policies, update Company Employee Handbook, as well as support key HR initiatives across all locations.
  • Maintain ownership of HR processes. Develops and maintains standard operating procedures (SOPs) with internal controls.
  • Identify and handle employee relations issues quickly and decisively while exercising strong judgment and discretion and partnering with other stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Coach, counsel, and guide employees and managers through any employee related issues, balancing organizational and individual needs.
  • Develop and/or implement management training in interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance review, safety, and sexual harassment.
  • Manage all employee leaves, worker’s compensation claims, and unemployment claims.
  • Knowledgeable on compensation and benefit regulations and maintain a proactive and positive relationship with broker, insurance vendors, and other external partners.
  • Maintain an effective performance management program that meets the desired culture at East Hill Medical.
  • Keep abreast of existing and new employee relations laws and policies to assure clarity of interpretation and compliance with all laws and regulations governing employment.
  • Work with the leadership team to promote corporate values and culture.

Required Experience and Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in human resource management, Business Administration or related field required

  • Certification in Human Resources preferred (SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP and/or PHR/SPHR)

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid New York State Driver License.
