Job description

Manager, Hardware Sustaining Engineering

Location: Onsite (primarily work from an HPE office).

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and ongoing leadership for a team of 4-6 hardware sustaining engineers. Coach and mentor team members for high performance and career growth.
• Manage multiple concurrent failure analysis and design change projects; manage priorities, allocate resources, track progress and drive to closure on schedule.
• Engage with customers and support teams to review, investigate and resolve customer escalations related to HPE networking hardware. Author RCCA and other hardware quality related reports.
• Present on RCCA and other HW Quality topics to customers and HPE stakeholders; drive proactive quality improvement in new products and NPI processes through closed-loop corrective actions and feedback into design teams.
• Collaborate with Supply Chain and Component Engineering to address component EOL replacement, second source, and value engineering priorities; collaborate with Manufacturing, CM and ODM teams to resolve critical issues seen in manufacturing and ensure production hardware quality.
• Track team performance through regular engagement, one-on-ones and OKRs.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.
• 3+ years experience in a hardware design or failure analysis role, including leading and managing a hardware engineering team.
• Skilled in coaching, team building and supporting career growth of team members.
• Experience in high-speed digital hardware design, test and debugging.
• Expertise in hardware quality, failure analysis, root‑cause/corrective action (RCCA).
• Demonstrated success in managing multiple concurrent programs and priorities and delivering results on schedule.
• Ability to interact and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams across multiple geographies.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience communicating with executive leadership and major customers.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.
• 5+ years in a manager role with direct reports.
• Strong customer focus, acting as voice of customer in driving HW quality, reliability and serviceability goals.
• Familiar with schematic and FPGA design, PCB layout, and manufacturing processes flow.
• Experience working with CM and ODM partners across the world to investigate and remediate HW quality issues.
• Skilled at compiling and analyzing data, working with quality metrics, dashboards (Tableau) and OKRs.
• Familiarity with networking hardware components, interfaces, and systems.
• Ability to review system-level test plans and test results and distill down to hardware specifics.
• Experience with product-lifecycle change management tools such as Agile PLM.

Salary: Annual USD 153,500 - 291,500 (Massachusetts) / USD 153,500 - 310,500 (California). Variable incentives may also be offered.
