We are seeking a Relief Manager/Person in Charge to travel between stores, develop weekly labor plans, supervise staff, and maintain merchandising, inventory, and POS standards. The role requires strong leadership, excellent communication, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced retail environment.

Essential Functions of the Position
  • Travel daily between different stores to assist where stores need help on an ad‑hoc basis in the central valley and northern stores.
  • Develop projected weekly work plans based on projected sales; write staffing schedules, monitor the plan, and make appropriate adjustments as needed; assign duties to employees on shift, schedule break periods, approve days off and vacation requests, and adjust scheduling based on business demands.
  • Maintain all merchandising standards, display presentation, POS standards, and monitor daily inventory levels.
  • Ensure appropriate merchandise stock levels, proper display presentations, POS signage, and assortment in all departments; keep the selling floor adequately stocked; monitor product quality and check for proper rotation.
  • Assign priorities and objectives to department staff, directly supervise completion of tasks, and monitor productivity to ensure efficiency through observation and review of production outputs.
  • Review department/store trends and recommend and initiate changes to maximize goals and objectives.
  • Listen to customer complaints, examine returned merchandise, and resolve problems to restore and promote good customer relations.
  • Troubleshoot and choose appropriate actions to correct equipment issues.
  • Assist in training new Team Members; coach and motivate employees to foster a team environment.
  • Oversee and complete monthly inventories in perimeter departments and quarterly full store inventories.
  • Perform Store Director duties in their absence as assigned.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Make projected weekly labor plans based on analysis from previous and projected sales; write staffing schedules, monitor the plan, and ensure compliance with company policies and applicable laws.
  • Evaluate employee performance, provide coaching and motivation for success, conduct internal interviews, promote employees as needed, and administer disciplinary actions including recommendations for termination when necessary.
  • Provide assistance to Grocery clerks/cashiers in completing difficult sales tasks.
  • Monitor reporting of customer and/or employee accidents and ensure accurate and timely completion of paperwork.
  • Verify cashier and Grocery clerk/cashier’s drawer at the end of their shift.
  • Open and close the department according to established procedures and produce necessary daily reports.
  • Administer the It’s Showtime Customer Service program and coach, mentor, and discipline employees as needed to ensure a pleasant shopping experience.
  • Contact appropriate vendors and monitor work performed to ensure all store and front‑end equipment is in proper working condition.
  • Make recommendations for improving front‑end procedures and/or policies to the Store Director.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge
  • Comprehensive understanding of grocery retail operations, including merchandising, inventory management, and sales forecasting.
  • Familiarity with applicable laws and regulations regarding grocery store operations.
  • Knowledge of POS systems and inventory management software.
  • Understanding of customer service best practices and strategies to enhance customer engagement.

Physical Requirements
  • Stand and walk for extended periods, typically 8‑hour shifts.

  • Handle and operate necessary equipment and tools.
  • Have good hand‑eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Maintain clear communication with customers and team members.
  • Move quickly and efficiently to assist customers and manage workload.
  • Maintain physical stamina to work in a fast‑paced environment.
Work Conditions
  • Work Hours: Ability to work flexible hours, including some weekends and holidays, as needed.
  • Environment: Indoor, climate‑controlled, with adequate lighting and ventilation.
  • Primary Work Stations: Work within the grocery store environments, including sales floor, backrooms, and exterior areas.
  • Dress Code: Professional and presentable attire as determined by store management.
  • Exposure: May be exposed to moving mechanical parts and cleaning chemicals.
  • Noise Level: Usually low to moderate, with occasional loud periods from customers, store announcements, and equipment.
  • Interaction: Constant interaction with customers and team members in a fast‑paced retail environment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Over five years of experience as a Relief Manager and Person in Charge is preferred; supervisory experience required; previous retail experience is an advantage.
