NWON is seeking a full-time experienced manager with expertise in park repair, upkeep, and street maintenance. Candidates must have carpentry and supervisory experience.

This is a second shift position, Tuesday through Saturday, from 1:30 pm to 10:00 pm. An active driver’s license is required.

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

This working manager role focuses on the operation and maintenance of high-profile parks, streetscape amenities, and lighting in the City of Philadelphia. The schedule includes a second shift and partial weekends, typically from Sunday to Thursday, with seasonal variations. The individual will collaborate with private property owners and others on-for-service projects to enhance streetscape improvements.

The Facilities Manager for Parks Operations will coordinate and oversee maintenance of all city assets, monitor and survey to ensure high standards in parks and streetscapes, and manage onsite contractors after hours. This role may act on behalf of the Director of Park Operations & Public Spaces in their absence or during events/rentals, serving as a backup behind the Infrastructure Maintenance Manager.

The position involves supervising field personnel, ensuring proper use and maintenance of equipment and infrastructure, and adhering to protocols, rules, and laws.

• Create a secure, well-maintained, and welcoming environment.
• Conduct monthly night surveys of lighting assets, including City Hall Lighting, Avenue of the Arts Lighting, Pedestrian Lighting, Underpass Lighting, and Façade Lighting.
• Schedule repairs based on survey findings using staff and contractors.
• Assist with deliveries to parks and the 8th Street property as needed.
• Oversee storage and handling of materials and parts inventory with the Infrastructure Maintenance Manager and facilities staff.
• Coordinate and complete streetscape maintenance promptly.
• Respond to emergency situations during the shift.
• Work with private contractors to control rodent issues in parks.
• Oversee and schedule maintenance of park equipment.
• Manage small-scale capital projects independently and coordinate with the Senior Director of Capital Projects.
• Track expenditures and invoices related to projects.
• Ensure safe storage of chemicals and maintain updated MSDS sheets.
• Collaborate with the Infrastructure Maintenance Manager to ensure safety compliance and conduct safety inspections.
• Manage contracts and contractors, develop processes for compliance, and attend relevant meetings.
• Plan and prepare maintenance schedules for the short and long term.
• Coordinate snow and ice removal with vendors during the shift, as directed.
• Work with property owners and team members on streetscape projects to expand improvements.
• Assist in developing departmental budget projections.
• May act as backup for the Infrastructure Maintenance Manager and support night-time event/rental operations to ensure parks are ready for public opening.
