Job summary

Avis Budget Group seeks a Fleet Maintenance and Damage Manager in Birmingham, AL to oversee fleet services, maintenance, and damage repair, ensuring optimal utilization and profitability for the district.

You will lead a team, manage budgets and vendor relationships, coordinate damage appraisals, and ensure safety and policy compliance while maintaining an on-site presence to support operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; 2–4 year college degree preferred (or equivalent).
• Minimum 5 years of management experience in rental car, automotive shop or service‑oriented field.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Maximize fleet utilization by directing maintenance, repair, and in‑fleet/de‑fleet activities.
• Manage team performance against KPIs for service, damage, in‑fleet and deletion.
• Forecast budgets and monitor cost per estimate and cost per deletion.
• Coordinate automotive damage appraisals/repairs and parts ordering.
• Oversee vendor relationships and ensure service levels.
• Oversee repair and maintenance of all buses at bussing locations.
• Partner with fleet owners and managers to prioritize workload.
• Manage hiring, onboarding, training and performance of managers and employees.
• Implement HR policies with HR partners.
• Provide a safe work environment and enforce safety policies.

Job description

Fleet Maintenance and Damage Manager

Assist the SC City Manager in the overall performance of the fleet services function with respect to servicing, vehicle damage repair and/or in‑fleeting/de‑fleeting rental vehicles to maximize fleet utilization and profitability for the district.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and communicate operating plans to maximize fleet utilization to business and company guidelines, directing and controlling the maintenance, repair, and/or reconditioning of fleet vehicles, and all activities relating to in‑fleeting new and/or used vehicles into the rental fleet and de‑fleeting vehicles to sale, auction and/or other alternative channels.
• Manage performance of team members/employees against the business plan by setting, communicating, monitoring and updating goals for key performance indicators for service, damage, in‑fleet and deletion activities.
• Forecast budgets and manage key financial drivers including S&W per day, warranty recovery, cost per estimate and cost per deletion.
• Coordinate automotive damage appraisals/repairs and all activities related to repairs and maintenance, including documentation, ordering parts, tools, and supplies.
• Oversee, manage, and maintain vendor relationships and workload assignments, ensuring established service levels and standards are met and vendor management policies and procedures are followed.
• Oversee repair and/or maintenance of all buses at bussing locations.
• Partner with fleet owners, district/city managers and/or external partners to prioritize workload according to business objectives.
• Manage all areas of the employee lifecycle, including hiring, onboarding, training, recognition and performance management of managers and employees.
• Implement HR policies and practices consistently and fairly, partnering with Human Resources Business Partners where appropriate.
• Provide a safe work environment by ensuring all safety policies and practices are followed and maintained.
