Job Overview

Jensen Hughes is seeking a Manager in our San Diego office. This position reports to the Team Leader in San Diego and is responsible for leading a team of technical contributors performing a range of professional services, primarily in the Fire and Building Safety service line. Successful execution of the position will include a strong focus on staff engagement and career development. Successful candidates will ideally reside in and/or relocate to the San Diego area to allow for proximity to the team. Hybrid or remote work arrangements will be considered.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with current leadership in developing a successful team with responsibilities including:
  • Team Culture: promote a positive and healthy team culture; keep staff informed of company initiatives and communications; promote employee engagement and satisfaction by ensuring a positive work environment and supporting career goals.
  • Client Focus: maintain strong working relationships with clients and colleagues to deliver quality products on time and within budget; manage client expectations through clear communication and assist team members in doing the same; participate in business development activities as coordinated by local leadership.
  • Technical Excellence: manage and implement a wide variety of engineering design and consulting projects; ensure business processes are implemented and improved to deliver best-in-class service; uphold high standards of honesty and integrity; maintain knowledge of company policies and guidelines; develop innovative solutions by leveraging diverse team perspectives.
  • Professional Growth: work with leadership to execute company and regional strategies; assist in recruiting and retaining top talent; train staff on technical, project management and business processes; identify opportunities for service line growth; proactively broaden the team’s skill base; foster a supportive environment for taking on challenging projects.
  • Team Management: oversee technical contributors and project managers and lead a team of up to 8 people; establish performance standards and coach individuals to succeed; guide staff using sound business acumen and the Jensen Hughes business model; lead and mentor staff on technical, project management and business development skills.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in technical consulting and developing client relationships.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) or higher in an engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Well-rounded knowledge of fire protection engineering fundamentals.
  • Professional designation is desirable but not required (e.g., Professional Engineering License).
  • Ability to mentor and manage staff while also handling responsibilities as a Project Manager.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities; excellent oral and written communications skills; excellent organizational skills.
