Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Manager, Financial Operations based in United States. The Manager, Financial Operations will lead critical money movement and payroll settlement operations, ensuring funds are transferred accurately, securely, and on time to support payroll delivery for thousands of workers. This role combines operational leadership, financial controls, payment infrastructure management, and continuous process improvement within a fast-growing financial technology environment. You will manage a team of financial operations specialists while overseeing high-volume transactions across ACH, wire transfers, and real-time payment networks. Working closely with banking partners, Treasury, Accounting, Risk Operations, Product, and Engineering, you will strengthen settlement processes and minimize operational and financial risks. The position also involves resolving complex payment exceptions, maintaining accurate reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with relevant banking and financial standards. This is an opportunity for a hands‑on leader who can balance precision, team development, and technical problem-solving in a fully remote U.S. role.

Accountabilities
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Financial Operations Specialists responsible for payroll funding, direct deposit transmissions, and payment exception processing.
  • Oversee end‑to‑end settlement operations across multiple payment networks, including Same‑Day ACH, Standard ACH, wire transfers, RTP, and FedNow.
  • Ensure all banking and payment processing deadlines are met to support timely payroll disbursements.
  • Monitor account balances, debit settlements, credit batches, and intraday clearing files to maintain accurate and reliable fund flows.
  • Manage ACH returns, credit reversals, payment trace requests, payroll adjustments, insufficient‑funds cases, and disputes.
  • Implement proactive fraud prevention, exposure monitoring, and risk mitigation controls across payroll funding and disbursement workflows.
  • Act as the senior escalation point for high‑value funding failures, emergency payroll runs, banking outages, and payment transmission disruptions.
  • Maintain daily three‑way reconciliations across client payroll records, internal ledger balances, and bank statements.
  • Collaborate with Treasury and Corporate Accounting to monitor settlement float, collateral accounts, and clearing reserves.
  • Establish and enforce operational controls, including maker‑checker procedures, dual authorization, and audit trails, in alignment with SOX, SOC 1/SOC 2, and NACHA requirements.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering teams to automate manual workflows, improve operational tools, and increase straight‑through processing rates.
  • Conduct root‑cause analyses of recurring transaction failures, processing delays, and banking API issues, implementing corrective actions to improve reliability.
  • Maintain relationships with banking partners and payment processors to optimize settlement timelines, clearing speeds, and transaction costs.
  • Track operational performance through service‑level agreements, error rates, resolution times, and other relevant metrics, while continuously improving team effectiveness.
Requirements
  • At least 5 years of experience in financial operations, treasury operations, payment operations, or payroll operations, including 2 or more years managing operational teams.
  • Strong knowledge of domestic payment networks, including NACHA rules, ACH clearing cycles, return codes, wire transfers, and real‑time payment systems.
  • Previous experience in payroll services, payroll software, professional employer organizations (PEOs), merchant processing, or B2B embedded fintech platforms.
  • Proven ability to manage high‑volume, time‑sensitive operational workflows while consistently meeting strict service‑level requirements.
  • Solid understanding of ledger accounting, bank statement reconciliation, settlement timing differences, and financial transaction controls.
  • Experience working with bank APIs, SFTP‑based payment batching, or modern financial ledger systems.
  • Proficiency in developing operational dashboards, monitoring performance metrics, and investigating transaction anomalies.
  • Ability to make sound, timely decisions during high‑pressure situations, including banking outages, funding failures, and settlement delays.
  • Demonstrated leadership and coaching skills, with the ability to establish clear expectations, promote accountability, and support team development.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and a customer‑service‑oriented approach when working with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, respond proactively to operational challenges, and work independently in a remote environment.
  • A proactive, resilient, dependable, and collaborative mindset, with the ability to learn quickly and adapt to evolving processes.
  • Professional certifications such as Accredited ACH Professional (AAP), Certified Treasury Professional (CTP), or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) are advantageous.
Benefits
  • Salary: Base salary of $90,000-$100,000 per year, with final compensation based on experience, expertise, and other relevant factors.
  • Performance‑based compensation: Bonus opportunities and stock options, in addition to base salary.
