Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a maintenance and facilities leader for the Morton DC in Morton, IL. You will oversee reliability, lifecycle management, and the maintenance of material handling automation and warehouse systems.

Responsibilities include leading a maintenance organization, driving continuous improvement, and developing multi-year capital plans to enhance safety and efficiency. The role requires a strong background in engineering, CMMS, and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Education: a bachelor’s degree in engineering or related STEM and 5 years of maintenance or facilities management experience in manufacturing or distribution
  • Collaborating: ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner
  • Cross-Team Integration: lead employees from various functions to communicate and coordinate across divisions
  • Data gathering & analysis: collect and synthesize data from multiple stakeholders to reach conclusions
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret performance metrics, identify trends and drive improvement
  • Manufacturing Application Systems: operate, maintain and update company databases and applications in manufacturing environments
  • Experience with SAP EAM/PM or another CMMS system

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers, partners and suppliers to meet business goals and budget constraints
  • Build and guide a facility maintenance team and lead training sessions for quality performance
  • Evaluate operation effectiveness with current utilities and equipment; propose solutions
  • Oversee inspections, repairs and updates of facilities and operations; maintain orderly facilities
  • Lead multi-year capital plans, asset replacement strategies and business cases to improve reliability and safety
  • Manage Morton DC Maintenance organization with shift supervisors and coaching
  • Oversee maintenance of material handling automation including conveyors, ASRS, cranes, robotics
  • Own equipment performance and OEE; set targets for response time, repair time, and availability
  • Partner with operations to improve network efficiency and PSLD transformation

What You Will Do
  • Collaborate with engineers, partners and suppliers to meet business goals in accordance with the sustainable use of facilities and budget demands.
  • Construct an efficient facility maintenance team and guides training sessions to ensure quality performance.
  • Evaluate the operation's effectiveness with current utilities and equipment; provides appropriate solutions to challenges and risks.
  • Oversee inspections, repairs and updates of facilities and relevant operational activities; maintains order at the facility.
  • Responsible for the strategic planning, reliability, operation, and maintenance of the material handling automation min the Morton DC
  • Lead the Morton DC Maintenance organization through a team of shift supervisors, providing direction, coaching, performance management, and development for supervisors, salaried staff, and hourly skilled trades across all shifts, including weekend coverage.
  • Lead the maintenance, reliability, and lifecycle management of material handling automation, including conveyor and sortation, ASRS crane systems, robotic cells, self-driving vehicles, vertical lifts, racking, box building and automated packaging machines, and warehouse control and PLC systems.
  • Own equipment performance and OEE for the site, leading technical solutions to chronic downtime and partnering with operations to set and meet response time, repair time, and availability targets that support warehouse throughput.
  • Develop and execute multi-year capital plans, asset replacement strategies, and business cases that improve reliability, reduce operational risk, enhance safety, and support PSLD transformation, technology, and network efficiency initiatives.
What You Have (Basic Requirements)
  • Education Requirement: A bachelor's degree in engineering or related STEM discipline AND 5 years of experience in maintenance or facilities management in a manufacturing or distribution environment
  • Collaborating: Knowledge of collaborative techniques; ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
  • Cross-Team Integration: Understanding of the importance of inter-team collaboration in breaking down silos and achieving business results; ability to lead employees from various functions to communicate, coordinate work across divisions, and collaborate in solving problems as one team.
  • Data Gathering & Analysis: Knowledge of data gathering and analysis tools, techniques, and processes; ability to collect and synthesize data from a variety of stakeholders and sources in an objective manner to reach a conclusion, goal, or judgment.
    • Strong analytical skills to interpret performance metrics, identify trends, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Manufacturing Application Systems: Knowledge of company and industry databases and applications used in a manufacturing environment; ability to operate, maintain and update these systems.
    • Experience with SAP EAM/PM or another computerized maintenance management system.
  • Manufacturing Equipment: Knowledge of the electrical, mechanical and logistics equipment used in manufacturing; ability to safely operate, maintain, update and store them.
  • Plant Facilities Management: Knowledge of processes, methodologies and techniques used to manage plant facilities; ability to handle the full spectrum of activities for managing and maintaining physical facilities and infrastructure.
  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Supplier Management - MFG: Knowledge of processes and methods to effectively manage business relationships and transactions with suppliers of raw materials or product components; ability to apply related knowledge, experience and skills into real practice.
Top Candidates Will Have
  • A master's degree in engineering, business, or another related field.
  • A Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP), or Certified Plant Engineer (CPE) credential.

Summary Pay Range

$147,760.00 - $221,640.00
