Job Description Summary

Manage and directly supervise assigned Ethics and Compliance Department staff to assist the Ethics and Compliance Program in satisfying the seven essential elements of an effective compliance program, including: (1) Assisting the Senior Director Compliance and Chief Privacy Officer and/or compliance committee as needed. (2) Developing, reviewing, and/or revising compliance policies and procedures, including Code of Conduct. (3) Assisting with the development and maintenance of open lines of communication. (4) Developing, delivering, and/or managing the delivery of appropriate specialized and general compliance training and education. (5) Responding to detected offenses. (6) Managing internal monitoring and auditing activities. (7) Assisting with the enforcement of disciplinary standards. This role uses data, analytics, technology, and artificial intelligence tools responsibly to identify emerging risks, strengthen controls, evaluate program effectiveness, and provide guidance to health care compliance research functions and research institute stakeholders. *This is a Remote-OH position.

Responsibilities And Duties

• 75% Manage and directly supervise the assigned E&C staff in an effective and efficient manner. Execution of multiple, concurrent, times-sensitive, complex projects, including: compliance program operations, investigations and audits. Assist the Director with development and revision of department policies and procedures, preparing reports for senior management and the Ethics and Compliance Senior Leadership Committee Boar d .
• 10% Responsible for consulting with the Director of Ethics and Compliance in hiring, training, developing and reviewing performance of their direct reports.
• 10% Works closely and collaboratively with other OhioHealth management teams throughout the health system to ensure program-wide compliance efforts are in alignment with federal, state, and system requirements.
• 5% Performs special projects and/or other duties as assigned.

Additional Job Description: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree; and 7+ years of direct and/or related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience. One or more of the following certifications may be required depending on the area of specialty. If the candidate does not have the required certification/credential, the candidate must be willing to learn and earn the credential within twelve months from the date of hire: Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) by the Health Care Compliance Association; Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC) by the Health Care Compliance Association; Certified in Healthcare Research Compliance (CHRC) by the Health Care Compliance Association; or Certified in Healthcare Compliance-Fellow (CHC-F) by the Health Care Compliance Association.

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES

Master’s degree, Juris Doctor, or advanced certification in health care compliance.

Experience working in compliance in a hospital, health system, academic medical center, payor, or integrated delivery network.

Experience advising for health care research.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE

Strong working knowledge of health care compliance program expectations, including guidance from the Office of Inspector General, U.S. Sentencing Commission, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and other regulatory authorities.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare executive-level reports, policies, investigations summaries, committee materials, and training content.

Knowledge of fraud, waste, and abuse laws; Stark Law; Anti-Kickback Statute; False Claims Act; HIPAA; billing and coding compliance; conflicts of interest; exclusion screening; vendor oversight; and other health care regulatory requirements.

Ability to evaluate compliance concerns, identify root causes, recommend practical corrective actions, and monitor remediation.

Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.

Strong analytical, organizational, facilitation, presentation, and project management skills.

Ability to build effective working relationships with leaders, physicians, clinicians, operational teams, legal counsel, auditors, and external stakeholders.

Ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities, deadlines, investigations, and projects in a complex health care environment.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and experience using compliance case management, audit tracking, learning management, reporting, or data analytics tools preferred.

Ability to translate compliance data into meaningful insights, including trend analysis, risk prioritization, performance measurement, executive reporting, and recommendations for corrective or preventive action.

Knowledge of responsible AI governance principles, including human oversight, data privacy, bias awareness, transparency, accuracy validation, appropriate use, documentation, and escalation of AI-related compliance concerns.

Knowledge of health care research compliance considerations, including human subjects research, IRB processes, informed consent, Common Rule concepts, research privacy, data use, conflicts of interest, research billing, grants, sponsor requirements, and research misconduct concerns.
