Job summary

UT Health San Antonio is seeking a Training Director to lead Epic training programs and a team of credentialed trainers. You will design curricula, coordinate with Epic project builds, and ensure top-tier education for providers and staff across the organization.

Job Description

Reporting to the Clinical Information Systems Training Director, this position will lead, guide, coach, and motivate the training team to achieve and create best-in-class learning opportunities and programs for all providers and staff using Epic system applications and related technologies to further the mission of UT Health San Antonio. This role is accountable for ensuring the delivery of Epic training curriculum, classes, and environments. This role will also establish collaborative partnerships with business leaders and subject matter experts to assess performance needs and provide feedback to enhance organizational performance.

Responsibilities
  • In partnership with the training team supervisor, Overall management of the training team; including hiring, performance and goal management, and professional development.
  • Directly supervises credentialed trainers in classroom knowledge, skills, and abilities providing feedback and growth opportunities in an Epic classroom
  • Leads the strategic development and ongoing coordination of the training and super user programs.
  • Leads the development of curriculum and training plans for new implementations/projects requiring education.
  • Leads the development, maintenance, and standardization of educational materials including process guides, tip sheets, other documents/materials as needed.
  • Investigates, plans, and implements new and innovative ways to communicate changes and provide education to EMR users.
  • Leads development and maintenance of the training environment(s) and environment strategy to support ongoing training and support needs.
  • Manages the coordination with both the application and technical teams to align training programs with the build and testing of ongoing Epic projects.
  • Collaborates with cross-information technology teams and application owners to troubleshoot and resolve application issues in a timely manner.
  • Assists in development of documentation tools for the end user in the electronic health record and specialty‑specific clinical content for ease and efficient end‑user documentation.
  • Provides ongoing leadership and motivation to help ensure the training staff is focused and delivering top‑notch training and content.
  • Ensures the training team successfully creates test scripts, timelines, and plans for application and workflow changes.
  • Provides technical expertise for system upgrades and helps manage time in the Build, design, testing, and documentation of new system features.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Excellent communication (written and oral), interpersonal skills, organization, time management, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles/theories of adult learning and competency‑based education.
  • Knowledge of Epic Production and Non‑Production Environments
  • Knowledge of training environment build, build tools, and building strategies.
  • Must be able to operate effectively in a collaborative shared team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Team development & coaching: The ability to bring people together to execute needs, provide training and personal
  • development/ coaching to team members on how to be successful within the organization.
  • Ability to efficiently adjust to changing priorities and complexities.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to analyze situations, identify existing or potential problems, and recommend solutions.
  • Demonstrated proficiencies in instructional design programs.
  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • EPIC processing accreditation or certification preferred.
  • Hybrid position must live in the greater San Antonio area. Relocation offered.
Required Skills

Sever (7) years of HIM/EMR, clinical or clinical business experience.

Benefits Overview

UT Health San Antonio offers an excellent benefits package for its employees. Employees who work at least 20 hours a week, with an appointment of at least 4.5 months, are eligible for benefits.

Medical

UT SELECT Medical insurance is offered free for employees and administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. Family members can be added to the plan through payroll deduction. Employees and their dependents can also receive discounted copays and coinsurance when using UT Health Physicians, a network of 800 premier physicians including more than 100 specialists. Employees receive $50,000 of group term life insurance and $50,000 of basic accidental death and dismemberment insurance for free, with options to purchase additional employee and dependent coverage for both at group rates.

Dental

Three dental insurance plan options are available for employees and their families through Delta Dental Insurance Company, two PPOs and one dental HMO plan. Both PPO plans allow employees to choose any licensed dentist.

Vision

Fully insured Vision Care benefits are offered by Superior Vision Services. Two vision plan options that offer either standard or enhanced vision benefits.

Disability

Employees can enroll in the Disability Insurance which provides income if a non-work related illness or injury prevents you from working.

FSAs

Employees can enroll in flexible spending accounts (FSAs) to set aside money from earnings before taxes for qualifying dependent day care expenses or out‑of‑pocket health care expenses.

Retirement

Employees are eligible for either the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) or the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP). TRS is a defined benefit retirement plan which UT Health matches employee contributions. ORP is for eligible faculty staff employees. Voluntary retirement programs are also available to invest before- or after-tax dollars with the choice of five quality retirement plan providers.

Time Off
  • Front‑loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.
  • Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken.
  • Paid Family Leave: Up to 240 hours (6 weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after 6 months of consecutive employment.
  • Holidays: 12 set paid holidays each year.
