Job summary

Garner Health is seeking an exceptional Engineering Manager for the Business Productivity team in New York City. You will lead and grow a high-performing engineering group, embedding AI into core workflows and partnering with business units to deliver measurable productivity gains.

The role reports to the VP of Platform Engineering and is based in NYC, with on-site presence three days a week. You will own services, drive AI adoption, and shape technical direction in a fast-moving, mission-driven

Qualifications

• 6+ years of hands-on engineering experience and 2+ years managing engineering teams.
• 2+ years of people leadership in a tech org.
• Experience building web apps and APIs on cloud infrastructure (AWS or similar).
• Strong ownership and proactive problem-solving mindset.
• Ability to partner with non-technical stakeholders and translate workflows into technical solutions.
• Thrives in a fast-moving startup or high-accountability environment.

About the role

We are seeking an exceptional Engineering Manager to join our Business Productivity team. This role will report to the VP of Platform Engineering. You will lead a team responsible for improving the efficiency of our internal lines of business by embedding AI into their core workflows.

Where you will work

This role will be based in our New York City office (in the Financial District). You must be willing to work in the office 3 days per week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team through coaching, authentic feedback, and hiring
• Partner closely with internal business units to identify high-leverage opportunities and ship features end-to-end that deliver measurable employee productivity gains
• Drive the delivery of AI-native solutions
• Own core services and ensure secure, high-quality, and reliable experiences in a fast-moving environment
• Balance quality with delivery speed, identify bottlenecks, and clearly communicate tradeoffs across engineering, product, and business stakeholders
• Set technical direction across the team's roadmap and its three bets: AI adoption, employee efficiency, and foundational improvements

The ideal candidate has

• 6+ years of hands‑on engineering experience and 2+ years managing engineering teams
• Experience building web applications and APIs on cloud infrastructure (AWS or similar)
• Strong sense of ownership and proactive problem‑solving mindset
• The ability to partner with non-technical business stakeholders and translate their workflows into effective technical solutions
• Experience thriving in a startup or other fast-moving, high-accountability environment
• A desire to be a part of a high-performing, mission-driven team that operates with intense urgency, a strong sense of individual accountability, and a commitment to authentic feedback

Compensation Transparency

The target base salary range for this position is $310,000 - $385,000. Individual compensation for this role will depend on various factors, including qualifications, skills, and applicable laws.
