Job summary

isolved is transforming its HCM platform and seeks an Engineering Manager to lead a team of senior and principal engineers. You will remove obstacles, sustain delivery momentum, and mentor growth while collaborating with domain teams and reporting to the Senior Director of Engineering.

The role blends people leadership, program coordination, and hands‑on contribution, with a strong focus on architecture, AI development practices, and modern infrastructure. This is a remote leadership position.

Qualifications

• S5+ years of engineering experience, including at least 2 years in an engineering management role
• Proven experience managing senior and principal-level engineers, coaching and environment‑setting
• Strong program coordination to manage dependencies and multiple workstreams
• Sufficient technical depth to engage in technical discussions and hands‑on work when needed
• Excellent communication to translate complex concepts for engineering teams and leadership
• Experience in a remote, distributed environment with high autonomy

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and retain a high‑performing team of ~10 principal and senior engineers in a remote environment
• Conduct regular 1:1s, provide clear feedback, and drive career progression
• Own team engagement and performance; address burnout risks and team dynamics
• Partner with senior leadership on hiring, onboarding, workforce planning, and team composition
• Maintain visibility into delivery across multiple teams; manage dependencies, risks, blockers
• Coordinate across teams; escalate issues early to minimize program impact
• Ensure alignment to engineering standards and best practices including architecture, AI, Terraform IaC
• Facilitate team rituals and drive operational excellence with tools and support
• Contribute hands‑on via code reviews, guidance, tooling improvements, or targeted implementation
• Stay connected to day‑to‑day engineering work to inform leadership decisions

This role will lead and support a team of senior, principal-level engineers, focusing on removing obstacles, maintaining delivery momentum, and fostering growth. This position blends people leadership, program coordination, and hands‑on contribution, working closely with domain teams and reporting to the Senior Director of Engineering.

Core Job Duties

• Lead, coach, and retain a high-performing team of ~10 principal and senior engineers in a remote environment
• Conduct regular 1:1s, deliver clear and actionable feedback, and drive individual development and career progression
• Own team engagement and performance by proactively identifying and addressing burnout risks, team dynamics, and organizational health
• Partner with senior leadership on hiring, onboarding, workforce planning, and team composition
• Maintain visibility into delivery across multiple teams, including dependencies, risks, blockers, and sequencing
• Act as a coordination point across teams, escalating issues early to minimize program-level impact
• Ensure alignment to engineering standards and best practices, including architecture, AI development practices, Terraform IaC, and event governance
• Facilitate team rituals and drive operational excellence by ensuring teams have the tools, clarity, and support needed to succeed
• Contribute hands‑on as needed through code reviews, technical guidance, tooling improvements, documentation, or targeted implementation support
• Stay closely connected to day‑to‑day engineering work to provide informed insights and enable effective decision-making with senior leadership
  

Job Complexity

Supervision

Typically manages activities of two or more sections or departments. Develops proven structure and processes that help their team achieve results. Exercises supervision in terms of costs, methods, and staffing. In some instances, this manager may have subordinate supervisors.

Experience

Typically requires a Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of direct experience, with 5+ years of management experience.

Minimum Qualifications

• S5+ years of engineering experience, including at least 2 years in an engineering management role
• Proven experience managing senior and principal-level engineers, with the ability to enable high-performing teams through coaching and environment‑setting rather than direct technical oversight
• Strong program coordination skills, with the ability to manage dependencies, balance competing priorities, and drive multiple workstreams simultaneously
• Sufficient technical depth to understand team deliverables, actively participate in technical discussions, and contribute hands‑on when needed
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively translate complex technical concepts for both engineering teams and senior leadership
• Demonstrated success working in a remote, distributed environment with a high degree of autonomy

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with .NET/C#, Azure, or distributed system
• SQL DB's like SQL Server and PostgreSQL
• Event driven architecture using tools like Debezium, CDC, Kafka/ Azure EventHubs
• Databricks (Optional)
• Background supporting modernization, migration, or system decomposition initiatives
• Experience in the HCM (Human Capital Management) domain
