Job summary

MEC in Michigan is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead project initiatives from concept through lifecycle, aligning resources, budgets and schedules.

You will mentor engineers, drive best practices, and work with customers and suppliers to optimize designs and costs. Seven years of engineering leadership and a relevant degree are expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Management or related field required.
  • Seven years of engineering experience.
  • Prior management or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong leadership, planning, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Review proposals to determine time frame, funding limits, procedures, staffing, and resource allocation.
  • Manage projects from conception to end of life.
  • Outline work plans and assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority.
  • Direct and coordinate activities to ensure progress on schedule and within budget.
  • Review status reports and adjust schedules or plans as required.
  • Prepare project reports for management and clients.
  • Provide technical guidance and resolve issues for project staff.
  • Contribute input at customer sites to reduce manufacturing costs.
  • Train and develop project engineers and improve systems used by the engineering group.
  • Investigate and implement best practices for engineering functions.
  • Lead high-performance engineering teams and manage roadblocks.
  • Develop and initiate new technologies, process improvements, and cost-reduction programs.
  • Propose business solutions related to product safety initiatives, long-term planning, and supplier agreements.

  • Reviews status reports prepared by project personnel and modifies schedules or plans as required.

  • Strong knowledge of engineering, testing, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to effectively solve problems with diverse groups of people.
  • Strong interpersonal, written communication, and problem‑solving skills to effectively interface with engineers, managers, and customers.
  • Well‑developed leadership and planning skills as well as the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to develop and coordinate activities of others and to focus on major project resources to ensure assignments are completed accurately, on time, and on budget.
Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Management or related field, or equivalent education and experience.
Experience Requirements
  • Seven years of engineering experience.
  • Prior management or supervisory experience preferred.
