Job summary

AbbVie is seeking a seasoned engineering leader to direct the site Engineering Department in Cincinnati. You will manage a team of engineers and supervisors, shape engineering strategy, and drive capital projects with a focus on EHS, quality, and GMP manufacturing.

Ideal candidates bring 8+ years of experience, a strong track record in project management, and ability to interact with senior management to align technical execution with business goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in Engineering, science, or closely related discipline is desired or equivalent technical experience plus demonstrated competence.
• 8+ years’ experience including: work as an individual contributor building technical expertise and proved project management skills.
• Able to interact and communicate with Senior Management and other groups within AbbVie engineering and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Business acumen coupled with leadership experience is required to drive high performance.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily leadership to the Project Engineering Department. These responsibilities include personnel management, training management, department organizational structure, and project management.
• Drive and lead the engineering department to meet the site/engineering business strategies; accountable for project budgets, and delivery of projects to support required plant/facility projects and programs.
• Lead the site's project strategic planning for the capital plan. Responsible of capital project definition, request capital expenditure (RCE) development, engineering cost estimate, design, project plan, integration, construction, and compliance with commissioning requirements.
• Responsible for compliance with applicable policies and procedures. Ensures quality and effectiveness of key results of major projects within function through sound design, early risk assessments, and implementation of fall back strategies.
• Mitigates risk within functions through sound design, early risk assessments, and implementation of fallback strategies.
• Recommend and implement business strategies and engineering controls to reduce costs, increase efficiencies, and drive world-class performance.
• Collaborate with peers and cross-functional partners to define action plans, timelines and budgets for project goals, and manage/plan/assign engineering resources required for execution.
• Develop and manage staff through hiring, managing performance, developing talent, and providing clear expectations.

Job Description

Provide leadership and direction for a site’s engineering department or group. Direct a staff of engineers and/or Supervisors. Interpret site directives and apply advanced scientific knowledge, engineering knowledge, mathematics, and ingenuity to define engineering strategy, continuous improvement and capital projects. Lead department or group personnel development, building and supporting a culture of high performance. Ensure adherence to policy/procedures related to Engineering Standards/Specifications, EHS, quality, and GMP manufacturing.

Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in Engineering, science, or closely related discipline is desired or equivalent technical experience plus demonstrated competence. Advanced degree in a technical field preferred.
• 8+ years’ experience including: work as an individual contributor building technical expertise and proved project management skills. Progressively increased responsibility and performance as a supervisor. Post-graduate degree may contribute towards the desired years of experience.
• Able to interact and communicate with Senior Management and other groups within AbbVie engineering and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Business acumen coupled with leadership experience is required to drive high performance.
