John Muir Health is seeking a Manager of Employee & Labor Relations to provide strategic leadership over employee and labor relations programs, ensuring policy and law compliance across the organization. The role partners with Legal, Compliance and executive leadership to mitigate risk and promote a respectful workplace.
The ideal candidate has 7+ years in labor/employee relations or employment law, a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, and preference for healthcare experience.
Job Description: The Manager, Employee & Labor Relations provides strategic leadership and oversight for the organization’s employee and labor relations programs, ensuring consistent application of policies, employment practices, collective bargaining agreements, and employment law. This role is responsible for leading the Employee Relations and Labor Relations functions and serves as the organization’s primary resource for complex employee relations matters, workplace investigations, labor strategy, and organizational risk mitigation. In partnership with Human Resources Business Partners, Legal, Compliance, executive leadership, and operational leaders, the Manager develops and implements proactive strategies that promote a fair, respectful, and compliant workplace while supporting organizational effectiveness, leader accountability, and employee engagement. The Manager leverages data, trends, and industry best practices to improve employee and labor relations outcomes, mitigate risk, and strengthen leadership capability across the organization.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree - Business, HR Management, or related field - Required 7+ years of equivalent experience in labor relations and employee relations or employment law will be considered in lieu of a degree
Experience: 5-10 years of progressive Human Resources experience, including employee relations, employee engagement, performance management, and organizational leadership - Required.
Collective bargaining and Labor Relations - Preferred 2+ years Healthcare experience - Strongly Preferred
Licenses/Certifications: SPHR Senior Professional in Human Resources - HRCI HR Certification Institute Preferred or PHR Professional in Human Resources - HRCI HR Certification Institute Preferred
Skills: Expertise in employee relations, including conducting workplace investigations, managing performance and conduct issues, facilitating conflict resolution, and advising leaders on complex employee matters Understanding of contract interpretation, grievance administration, labor-management collaboration, collective bargaining support, and union-related issue resolution. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with a diverse workforce in a complex environment Ability to work independently in a team environment Maintains professional and personal integrity Excellent communications skills with the ability to think on one’s feet, ability to give quick, confident responses that are within the context of the law and human resources policy and to be articulate in emotionally charged situations Excellent written skills and verbal presentation skills both in small and large groups Ability to mentor and support team members in their career development Strong knowledge of federal and California labor and employment law including wage and hour compliance.

Work Shift: Exempt Salaried (United States of America)
Pay Range: $150,788.00 - $226,182.00 Salary Offer amounts are based on demonstrated/relevant experience and/or licensure. Pay will be adjusted to the local market if hired outside of the Bay Area. Note: Positions at JMH which are exempt (not eligible for overtime) under the level of Manager are listed as hourly for compensation purposes on this posting. The work shift will contain the word ‘exempt’ on it.
