Job summary

CoStar Group, Inc. seeks a Manager of Database Administration in Irvine, CA, to lead a team of 6 DB professionals.

The role focuses on MS SQL Server administration, cloud data platforms, and ensuring database availability, security, and performance across production, development, and QA environments. The candidate will manage on-call duties, drive change control processes, and collaborate with development and QA teams to deliver reliable data services for CoStar's real estate information

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years in related roles.
• Experience with SAN-based storage technologies for MS SQL installations.
• Proficient in Microsoft T-SQL and stored procedures.
• Experience with SANs (NetApp/EMC).
• Strong MS SQL Server experience (8+ years).
• PowerShell scripting skills (4+ years).
• Experience with TFS/AzureDevOps/Visual Studio Database Projects (6+ years).
• SSDT experience (6+ years).
• Project management experience (4+ years).
• Knowledge of HA/DR architectures (4+ years).

Responsibilities

• Administer MS SQL Server, including replication, backup/restore, and related components (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS).
• Support and administer cloud data platforms (AWS Aurora RDS, DynamoDB) for availability, performance, security, and scalability.
• Install, configure, monitor, and maintain databases across prod, dev, and QA.
• Process DB change requests per change control policies (databases, tables, views, procedures, jobs).
• Recommend and implement SQL performance tuning solutions.
• Assist with Windows Server configuration related to MS SQL Server installation and performance.
• Provide support and technical expertise to development, QA, and other teams.
• Analyze problems, anticipate issues, and implement solutions.
• Participate in on-call rotation and incident resolution as needed.
• Manage 6 direct reports (4 Senior DBAs, 2 Senior Data Engineers).
• Partial telecommuting permitted within commutable distance.

Job Duties

• Complete Microsoft SQL Server task including administration, replication, backup/restore procedures and related components such as Reporting Services, Analysis Services, and Integration Services.
• Support and administer cloud-based data platforms, including AWS Aurora RDS (PostgreSQL/MySQL-compatible) and Amazon DynamoDB, ensuring availability, performance, security, and scalability.
• Install, configure, monitor, and maintain databases in the production, development, and quality assurance environments.
• Process database change requests, including the creation and modification of databases, tables, views, stored procedures, triggers, and jobs in accordance with change control policies.
• Recommend and implement solutions for SQL performance monitoring and tuning.
• Assist with Windows Server configuration and management as it relates to MS SQL Server installation and performance.
• Provide support and technical expertise to development, QA, and other teams.
• Analyze problems, anticipate future problem areas, and implement solutions.
• Participate in an on-call rotation approximately one week every three months, responding to system alerts and supporting incident resolution as needed.
• Manage 6 direct reports, including 4 Senior Database Administrators and 2 Senior Data Engineers.
• Partial telecommuting permitted from within a commutable distance.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer and Information Technology or a closely related field plus 8 years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
