Job summary

Request Technology, LLC is seeking a Database Manager to oversee the functionality and usability of corporate databases from their offices in Chicago, IL or Coppell, TX. The ideal candidate will have over 7 years of experience in database management and a broad knowledge of various SQL databases including DB2 and SQL Server.

This position requires strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to support project teams. The role operates in a hybrid work setup:

3 days onsite and 2 days remote.

Location: Chicago, IL, 60606, US or Coppell, TX, 75019, US

Hybrid: 3 days onsite, 2 days remote

Qualifications
  • 3+ years of managing all areas of a database group
  • 7+ experience in database and data administration
  • Broad knowledge of different SQL databases such as DB2, Sybase, Informix, SQL Server, EDB and Postgres SQL
  • In-depth knowledge of how database department fits into development lifecycle
  • Excellent communication skills, analytical abilities, strong judgement and management skills, and ability to work with customers, managers and staff
Responsibilities
  • Manages the availability and usability of corporate databases in accordance with requirements
  • Manages database department efforts in support of project teams, review and approve proposed changes by project teams to the logical database design and approve changes to Corporation’s databases
  • Provides timely support to all production databases
  • Manages activities with other departments (e.g. information technology, unix administration, technical support, production automation, project office, etc.)
  • Assign personnel to projects and direct their activities
  • Contribute to decisions on personnel actions (hiring, promotions, terminations, etc.)
  • Confer with and advise subordinates on administrative policies and procedures, technical problems, priorities and methods
  • Prepare and monitor progress to satisfy employee career goals
  • Decide, schedule, and ensure funding for employee training classes, conferences and seminars
  • Review and evaluate work of staff and prepare periodic performance reports
  • Effectively participate as a member of Production Division management team
  • Maintain a high level of leadership and management
  • Develop, publish and maintain a department assessment consisting of Departmental Mission/Function, Performance Standards, Goals and Objectives, Strengths and Weaknesses
  • Develop and communicate a challenging, clear and measurable Performance Review for each in-line management staff member; assist in the development, review and approval of clear and measurable Performance Review and Employee Development Plans for all staff members and provide regular and constructive feedback regarding the achievements of expectations
  • Hold regular staff meetings to keep employees informed regarding relevant industry, corporate, departmental issues, projects and concerns; support staff decisions and give recognition of accomplishments; and encourage cooperation, collaboration and teamwork within staff and team members
  • Initiate, manage and participate in corporate projects or departmental initiatives
  • Provide monthly status of achievement reports on departmental objectives and corporate project deliverables
  • Maintain a current skills/knowledge/ability inventory for each employee and utilize tasks that achieve project goals while promoting growth and development of staff
  • Develop, manage, monitor and revise annual departmental operating budget in accordance with Accounting guidelines
