Job summary

Vanguard in Charlotte, NC is seeking a senior data science leader to manage a team responsible for diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics across marketing, supply chain, and economic research. You will drive data-driven decision making and shape the strategy of Vanguard's data science capabilities.

You will guide model design, validate approaches, and translate complex findings into actionable insights for executives.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five+ years related work experience in Data science roles.
• Expertise in NLP, Generative and Agentic Solutions.
• Deep understanding of Transformer Architectures and experience in improving performance of Agents.
• Programming skills to access, transform and prepare large scale data for machine learning modeling.
• Experience utilizing statistical and machine learning methods.
• Experience in creating explainable ML solutions and attribution methodologies.
• Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Analytics, Applied Mathematics, Economics, Statistics or related field of study or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Graduate degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversees and engages in deep dive diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics to support data-driven business decision making in conversational AI Projects. Creates alternative model approaches to assess complex model design and advance future capabilities.
• Manages a team of data scientists for analytics projects supporting decision making. Supports the continuous evolution and strategy of Vanguard's data science capabilities.
• Identifies data inconsistencies and errors, documents data assumptions, and fills data gaps.
• Engages with internal stakeholders to understand and probe business processes to develop hypotheses.
• Guides test design, research design, and model validation. Provides statistical consultation services. Serves as the analytics expert on cross functional teams for large strategic initiatives.
• Executes operational plans to achieve department objectives. Collaborates with department or functional heads in planning, developing, and executing near-term goals.
• Prepares, reviews, and delivers insight presentations and action recommendations. Communicates complex analytical findings and implications to business leaders.
• Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
• Designs and refines data mining architectures, analytical protocols, and statistical reporting methods to identify actionable trends in large and complex datasets.
• Applies advanced data science principles and emerging technologies to develop models that inform strategic decisions across functions such as marketing, supply chain, and economic forecasting.
• Conducts research to evaluate cutting-edge analytics methodologies, aiming to enhance organizational capabilities and maintain competitive advantage.
• Hires, evaluates, and supervises crew. Provides guidance and training as necessary to develop crew. Sets performance standards, reviews performance, and makes informed compensation decisions in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.
