Job summary

Vanguard is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to lead the development of next-generation AI/ML solutions for Vanguard Workplace Solutions in Malvern. You will design and build innovative AI-powered systems, collaborate with data scientists, ML engineers, data engineers and PMs, and advance practical business impact through generative AI and LLMs.

The role requires guiding end-to-end modeling initiatives, ensuring data quality, mentoring junior staff, and communicating insights to senior leaders

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of related work experience in data science or analytical roles.
• Experience with large language models, knowledge graph and generative AI.
• Proficiency in Python programming and machine learning frameworks; cloud platforms such as AWS.

Responsibilities

• Owns the end-to-end design, development, and execution of complex predictive modeling initiatives, from problem formulation through validation, deployment readiness, and ongoing risk assessment.
• Leads and executes deep dive diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics to support data-driven business decision making and mentors junior staff.
• Establishes and enforces data quality standards for modeling use and documents assumptions and limitations.
• Partners with senior leadership to understand business processes and translate requirements into analytic approaches.
• Guides research design, model evaluation, validation, and monitoring strategies for model performance and risk.
• Builds reusable tools and frameworks to improve modeling efficiency and scalability.

Job description

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will lead the development of the next generation AI/ML solutions for Vanguard Workplace Solutions. Leveraging state-of-the-art AI capabilities in machine learning, advanced analytics and generative AI, you will design and build innovative solutions to enhance efficiency, improve client experience and drive impactful strategies. You will explore emerging AI methodologies, assess their business applications, and help foster a culture that champions innovation, business impacts and continuous learning. In this role, you will collaborate closely with a group of data scientists, machine learning engineers, data engineers and product managers to deliver high-impact AI-powered solutions.

Responsibilities

• Owns the end-to-end design, development, and execution of complex predictive modeling initiatives, from problem formulation through validation, deployment readiness, and ongoing risk assessment.
• Leads and executes deep dive diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics to support data-driven business decision making. Creates alternative model approaches to assess complex model design and advance future capabilities. Mentors and develops junior data scientists and analysts.
• Establishes and enforces data quality standards for modeling use, including diagnosing data issues, documenting assumptions and limitations, and filling data gaps in ways that balance rigor, practicality, and risk.
• Partners with senior leadership to understand and probe business processes in order to develop hypotheses. Brings structure to requests and translates requirements into an analytic approach.
• Guides research design, model evaluation, validation, and monitoring strategies, providing expert judgment on model performance, stability, and appropriate use. Serves as a trusted technical voice on cross‑functional initiatives involving advanced analytics or machine learning.
• Builds reusable tools, frameworks, and shared resources that improve modeling efficiency, consistency, and scalability across the predictive and analytics community.
• Prepares and delivers clear, insightful presentations with recommended actions. Communicates complex analytical findings and implications to business leaders.
• Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of related work experience in data science or analytical roles. Strong experience utilizing statistical and machine-learning methods required. Experience with large language models, knowledge graph and generative AI required.
• Proficiency in Python programming and experience with machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn). Proficiency in cloud platform (such as AWS) and associated AI services and tools.
• Strong stakeholder Management and excellent communication skills.
