McDonald’s Global Technology – Data & Analytics is seeking a Data Engineering Tech Lead to own delivery of data initiatives across the data product landscape. You will partner with business customers to define and deliver technical data solutions and ensure secure, standardized integrations with McDonald’s systems.

The Tech Lead will guide data engineers, drive architectural decisions, and ensure release readiness while aligning with global teams across time zones.

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science or related field is REQUIRED.
• 6+ years of technically focused experience with listed technologies.
• 5+ years of proficiency in SQL and database concepts.
• Experience with Event, Workflow and API/Microservices data architecture.
• Experience leading large cross-functional teams to deliver projects.
• Strong communication and mentoring skills across a global org.

Department Overview

The McDonald’s Global Technology - Data & Analytics team has an exciting opportunity for a data engineering Tech Lead (TL). In this role, you will own responsibility for delivering data initiatives across our data product landscape, to globally improve and progress McDonalds to a world class data product organization. Partner with business customers and stakeholders to define and deliver the associated technical data product solutions using a mix of internal and external (vendor) resources and products and ensure successful integration with existing McDonald’s systems.

The TL is responsible for the discovery, solution design and delivery of data application/services and architecture of the systems across the data platform ensuring they are secure and standardized and can be easily consumed by downstream users/services/systems. Ensure tech design patterns and best practices are consistently applied & followed across systems. The TL is also a people leader for data engineers and owner of the architectural/technical decisions for the data product(s).

Duties

• Develop the data product’s target technical roadmap and key technology decisions to deliver the roadmap, with first time data quality.
• Collaborate with Data & Solution Architects to launch scalable and reliable data solutions, support system integration efforts, and create operational efficiencies through automation and process improvements.
• Actively manage and drive accountability of 3rd party technology vendors
• Ability to synthesize information and communicate effectively to a broad range of stakeholders
• Manage technical interdependencies and interfaces of their product with other systems and products
• Be the voice of change to advocate for effective and rationalized data footprint, and drive decommissioning of redundant processes and systems
• Partner with Product Managers and other stakeholders in planning, definition and high-level design of solutions; explore alternatives, partner with product teams in identifying technologies and making technical tradeoffs and decisions
• Architect and define a systems landscape to connect data flows across all McDonalds Data systems.
• Establish best practices for identifying, analyzing and managing technical risks.
• Responsible for testing strategy and the quality of the outputs of the internal/external development teams
• Provide people leadership for data engineers, professional development and engineering resources allocated to the product
• Define critical non-functional requirements that sustain throughout the data product lifecycle
• Participate in release preparation and planning
• Manage temporary solutions and technical debt at the squad level
• Serve as subject matter expert across McDonald’s data systems.
• Participate on data quality initiatives.
• Ability and flexibility to coordinate and work with teams distributed across time zones, as needed. For instance, early morning/late evening hours to coordinate with teams in India

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science or related field is REQUIRED.
• 6+ years of technically focused experience in related technologies and languages (Web Services, Java, XML, S3, NoSQL, Kafka, Spark, etc.)
• 5+ years of proficiency in SQL, with solid understanding of database concepts.
• Sound understanding of Event, Workflow and Application driven Data Architecture. API and Microservices management
• Seasoned technical leader with hands-on development and deployment experience with insights into the newest technology and development trends.
• Experience partnering with stakeholders across an at-scale, complex, global matrix org structure
• Experience leading large cross functional teams to align and deliver projects.
• Deep understanding of business, information, technical architecture (e.g. architecture principles design, deployment models), security
• Experience with creating and executing testing strategies for functional, integration and performance testing
• Experience developing solutions that provide high levels of resilience and scale.
• Experience in Agile product development
• Strong communication skills with ability to communicate complex technical concepts and align organization on decisions with stakeholders of all levels of expertise
• Active coach and mentor whose goal is to grow and maximize team members’ potential

Salary Range

The expected salary range for this role is$138,207.00 -$172,758.00per year
