Job description

Overview

Manager, Data Infrastructure role at Recursion. Your work will change lives. Including your own.

Recursion is a leading, clinical-stage TechBio company decoding biology to industrialize drug discovery. Central to its mission is the Recursion OS, a platform built across diverse technologies that continuously expands one of the world’s largest proprietary biological, chemical and patient-centric datasets. Recursion leverages sophisticated machine-learning algorithms to distill from its dataset a collection of trillions of searchable relationships across biology and chemistry unconstrained by human bias. By commanding massive experimental scale—up to millions of wet lab experiments weekly—and massive computational scale—owning and operating one of the most powerful supercomputers in the world—Recursion is uniting technology, biology and chemistry and patient-centric data to advance the future of medicine.

The Impact You’ll Make

You will lead a team working to standardize and automate the process of accessing and analyzing data across Recursion. From experiment data to cutting edge ML to process automation, all data flows to the lake. You will work cross-functionally across tech, science and the business to translate across groups and facilitate collaboration.

In This Role, You Will
  • Enable your teams for scale - The data infrastructure team is responsible for building and operating a data platform that allows users to discover and query across the breadth of our data at Recursion. We have a chemistry library of billions of compounds, more than 30 petabytes of image and video data taken in millions of different experimental contexts, all to support Recursion’s drug discovery and analytics capabilities. They enable everything from operating a lab to running a clinical trial. In this role, you will work closely with the team to understand the needs of the business and build clear solutions.
  • Act as a mentor, coach, and sponsor - You will share your technical, leadership and managerial skills and experiences, delivering impact, learning, and growth across teams at Recursion. We believe that the best work comes from working across organizational boundaries and you will have opportunities to partner with groups across the business.
  • Enable a data driven culture - Data is at the core of everything we do. You will work with stakeholders and partners across the business to ensure we are getting the most value from the data we generate. Problems you will work on could range from investigation around data locality through company level metric definitions.
The Team You’ll Join

You'll be part of a group of technical leaders who work together on the craft of engineering leadership as well as debate system level architecture choices and patterns. We all work better when we have the support of those around us and are learning together to solve problems across our teams.

The Experience You’ll Need
  • 5+ years in a hands-on technical data role, and excitement for deeply engaging in technical discussions and decisions your team is making to drive us forward.
  • 2+ years experience managing data engineers, using technical and interpersonal skills to achieve results.
  • A people-first mindset. We deliver in a way that prioritizes supporting our coworkers in their growth and experience and understand how Conway’s Law shapes our outcomes.
  • Demonstrated past record of learning from and teaching peers in areas of data, performance, scalability, and system architecture.
  • Excitement to learn parts of our tech stack that you might not already know. Our current tech stack includes: Python, dbt, Big Query, Postgres, Fivetran, Prefect, Looker, Spotfire, Atlan and GCP.
  • Fluency in life sciences or drug discovery is a plus but not required to be considered.
Working Location & Compensation

This position can be based at either our SLC or New York office. Please note that we are a hybrid environment and ask that employees spend 50% of their time in the office.

At Recursion, we believe that every employee should be compensated fairly. Based on the skill and level of experience required for this role, the estimated current annual base range for this role is $142,500 - $206,900. You will also be eligible for an annual bonus and equity compensation, as well as a comprehensive benefits package.

The Values We Hope You Share
  • We act boldly with integrity. We are unconstrained in our thinking, take calculated risks, and push boundaries, but never at the expense of ethics, science, or trust.
  • We care deeply and engage directly. Caring means holding a deep sense of responsibility and respect - showing up, speaking honestly, and taking action.
  • We learn actively and adapt rapidly. Progress comes from doing. We experiment, test, and refine, embracing iteration over perfection.
  • We move with urgency because patients are waiting. Speed isn’t about rushing but about moving the needle every day.
  • We take ownership and accountability. Through ownership and accountability, we enable trust and autonomy—leaders take accountability for decisive action, and teams own outcomes together.
  • We are One Recursion. True cross-functional collaboration is about trust, clarity, humility, and impact. Through sharing, we can be greater than the sum of our individual capabilities.

Our values underpin the employee experience at Recursion. They are the character and personality of the company demonstrated through how we communicate, support one another, spend our time, make decisions, and celebrate collectively.
