Job summary

Toyota North America is seeking a strategic and hands-on Manager of Data Engineering to lead the enterprise data acquisition and ingestion platform—powering analytics, AI, and data products. You will design cloud-native lakehouse solutions (AWS/Snowflake) and guide a 6+ person team to deliver scalable, governed data capabilities.

The ideal candidate has 10–15+ years in data engineering or platform leadership, experience with CDC, APIs, and streaming, and strong ability to align technical work

Qualifications

  • 10–15+ years in data engineering or platform leadership.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise-scale data acquisition methods (CDC, APIs, file transfer, event streaming).
  • Deep knowledge of cloud-based lake/lakehouse architectures (AWS, Redshift, Snowflake).
  • Strong programming skills (Python/Java) and experience with microservices and APIs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and deployment of a modern data platform for ingestion and analytics.
  • Build production-grade data pipelines and self-service tools.
  • Architect cloud-native lakehouse solutions and multi-tenant capabilities.
  • Collaborate with business, product, data architecture, and platform teams to govern data ecosystem.
  • Define and champion data engineering best practices: modeling, contracts, lineage, governance.
  • Lead and grow a high-performing team of engineers.

Whatyou’llbe doing
  • Lead thedesign, and execution of a modern, scalabledata acquisitionand analyticalplatform to ingest data from internal systems, APIs,microservices, and third-party sources.
  • Design,Buildrobustproduction-gradepipelinesandself-service toolsthat enable software and data engineers toacquiredata at scale—securely and efficiently.
  • Architectcloud-native lake andlakehousesolutions (AWS,Snowflake) and implement multi-tenant capabilities to serve global Toyota entities.
  • Partner acrossbusiness,product,data architecture, and platform teams to deliver an integrated, governed, and discoverable data ecosystem.
  • Define and champion data engineering best practices: data modeling, schema evolution, data contracts, testing strategies, lineage tracking, cataloging, and governance
  • Proactively communicate technical risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations to bothengineering and non-technical stakeholders
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering Managers, Product, Data Science, and Analytics toshape data roadmaps and ensure the platform evolves with business needs
  • Design and implement data quality frameworks — validation rules, anomaly detection, freshness checks, and alerting — so downstream consumers can trust the data withoutasking
  • Identifyand resolve systemic data issues: pipeline failures, data quality degradation, schema drift, latency in streaming systems, cost inefficiencies in storage and computing, and gaps in data observability
  • Lead and grow a high-performing team of6+ engineers, setting a high bar for technical depth, delivery, and innovation.
What you bring
  • 10–15+ years indata engineeringand platformtechleadership roles.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise-scaledata acquisitionmethods (CDC, APIs, file transfer, event streaming).
  • Deep knowledge ofcloud-based lake/lakehousearchitectures (AWS,Redshift,Snowflake, or similar)
  • Strong programming skills (PythonorJava) and experience withmicroservicesand APIs.
  • Proven ability to design and implement scalable, secure, and governed data platforms.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to align business and technical stakeholders.
Added bonusif you have
  • Advanced degree inComputer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • AWS SolutionsArchitect certification or higher.
  • Experience building data catalogs,managing dataprivacy, andimplementinggovernance frameworks.
  • Exposure to big data ecosystems (Hadoop,Spark,Hive,etc).
  • Experience working inBankingorInsurancesectors dealing withvariousfinancial instrumentsor warranty policies.
