Job Description

CoStar’s Core Technical team is growing, and we’re looking for a Manager, Data Engineering to help accelerate our growth. This team focuses on revenue, building systems that power our commerce, with $2.7bn of revenue flowing through our system. We handle vast amounts of data in SQL, Elastic Search, and other cloud-based storage systems. As we expand globally, we need a leader to design and guide the construction of a next-generation data system, build out the data engineering team for our financial platform, and collaborate across departments to develop a resilient, high-performance architecture. You will oversee data management, automate data infrastructure, and facilitate data access and analysis for key teams.

This position is based in Arlington, VA, offering a hybrid schedule of 4 days onsite and 1 day remote.

Responsibilities

  1. Design, build, test, deploy, and maintain real-time and batch data processing systems in cloud environments.
  2. Manage a large number of SQL server databases daily.
  3. Expand and optimize our hybrid data storage system, including relational, document, on-premise, and cloud storage.
  4. Ensure data, structured and unstructured, is accessible and usable for analysis.
  5. Work with Snowflake/Databricks, including SQL table management and aggregate derivation.
  6. Oversee large-scale data processing system design and construction.
  7. Act as a player-coach to a growing data engineering team.
  8. Translate data domains into transformations to meet business needs.
  9. Design data solutions emphasizing single source of truth and reducing redundancies.
  10. Collaborate with engineering teams to automate data infrastructure and tracking.
  11. Integrate data from multiple sources into existing models.
  12. Manage data governance, metadata, privacy, and security.
  13. Optimize queries and improve data performance.
  14. Liaise with DBA, DevOps, SecOps teams for data accessibility.
  15. Mentor and manage data engineers and analysts.
  16. Deliver software projects on time and within budget.
  17. Promote engineering excellence and continuous improvement.
  18. Assist in recruiting top talent.
  19. Evaluate emerging technologies for platform enhancement.

Basic Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in CS, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.
  2. Proven commitment to previous employers.
  3. 5+ years leading engineering or analytics teams.
  4. Ability to motivate and lead cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
  5. Strong relationships with stakeholders, including C-suite.
  6. 8+ years experience with SQL, Python, BI tools, and data warehousing.
  7. Advanced skills in SQL, Excel, and Python.
  8. Knowledge of BI software (Power BI, Tableau, Kibana) and web analytics (Google Analytics, BigQuery).
  9. Ability to synthesize and present critical data effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience with large relational databases like SQL Server, Oracle.
  2. Experience with document storage systems like Elastic/Lucene.
  3. Experience with cloud data lakes/storage (AWS S3, Snowflake, Databricks, Data Pipeline).
  4. Experience managing large datasets for insights.
  5. Background in real estate industry preferred.
