POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager, Cyber Architecture, will be a key leader within the cybersecurity department, collaborating across the university ecosystem and reporting to the Director of Cyber Architecture and Engineering. This full-time exempt position is remote and includes USC’s comprehensive benefits.

The role involves managing the university’s security architecture, ensuring IT system integrity, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. You will lead teams executing cybersecurity strategies aligned with architectural principles, assess and recommend security solutions, shape security policies, and provide technical insights on security matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage assessments and recommend security solutions across the university, including research security.
  • Design robust security systems and respond swiftly to vulnerabilities.
  • Develop and enforce security architecture guidelines and policies.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the university’s security architecture, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
  • Guide specialized teams in security strategy execution, fostering a culture of compliance and excellence.
  • Participate in staff management activities and provide security insights to leadership.
  • Stay informed on security trends and evolve architecture to address emerging threats.
  • Ensure architecture adapts to changes in legal, regulatory, and technological environments, communicating updates effectively.
  • Promote a workplace culture of inclusion, respect, and contribution, aligned with USC’s Code of Ethics.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of experience in security architecture design and network security or related fields.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and education.
  • Extensive experience in security architecture, capable of implementing effective frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of network security technologies and best practices.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals, attack strategies, and application security.
  • Experience with operational technology architecture and modern data center technologies (virtualization, cloud, disaster recovery).
  • Technical expertise to support university objectives through enabling technologies.
  • Proven ability to design, evaluate, and improve processes, leading teams effectively.
  • Knowledge of SDLC and IDLC processes with security considerations integrated.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Additional related experience and leadership skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in information science, computer science, or engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience within a university setting and familiarity with university security architecture.
  • Cybersecurity certifications such as CISSP, GIAC, or CISM.
  • Demonstrated commitment to integrity, excellence, community, well-being, communication, and accountability.
