Job Description

The Manager, Construction Project Engineering is a construction leadership role responsible for supervising, developing, and directing a multidisciplinary team of Construction Project Engineers (Levels I - VI) across civil / structural, process / mechanical, and electrical, instrumentation & controls (E&IC) disciplines on nuclear facility projects. This role owns the technical quality, workload, and professional growth of the construction project engineering team, ensuring engineering deliverables are produced accurately, on schedule, and in compliance with strict regulatory safety standards. Reporting to the Construction Manager(s) and Senior Director, Construction Projects, the Manager translates project priorities into staffing and workload plans, reviews and approves the team's engineering products, and serves as the escalation point for significant technical, schedule, and safety issues arising from the field.

This role will work from an active construction site setting, which will involve working outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, or wind. The noise level may be loud, with frequent exposure to heavy machinery, power tools, and other construction-related equipment. In this setting, personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.

Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities:

• Team Supervision & Leadership: Directly supervise a team of Construction Project Engineers (Levels I - VI) across civil / structural / architectural, process / mechanical, electrical, and I&C disciplines, providing day-to-day direction, setting priorities, and ensuring the team meets project commitments.
• Workload & Staffing Allocation: Assign and balance project engineering workload across disciplines and personnel, matching engineer capability and level to task complexity, and identify staffing gaps or additional hiring needs to support project scope and schedule.
• Oversight of Deliverable Reviews & Approvals: Review and approve the team's deliverables - Construction Work Packages (CWPs), submittal reviews, technical evaluations, NCR dispositions, pay applications, construction procurements, weekly report coordination, and field change documentation - ensuring technical accuracy, constructability, and compliance with design, codes, and quality assurance plans.
• Technical Oversight: Provide senior technical guidance across disciplines, resolving complex or cross-disciplinary engineering issues and ensuring consistent engineering standards and practices throughout the team.
• Safety & Compliance: Ensure all project engineering activities and field support adhere to Industrial Health & Safety (IH&S) guidelines, regulatory codes, and quality assurance plans, and reinforce a strong safety culture within the team.
• Coordination & Interface: Coordinate closely with the Construction Manager(s), Senior Director, Field Engineers, Project Controls, Inspection Oversight, Subcontract Technical Representative (STR), external design consultants, and the contractor(s) to align project engineering support with construction execution priorities.
• Issue Escalation: Serve as the escalation point for significant technical, schedule, and safety issues identified by the project engineering team, elevating to the Construction Manager(s), Senior Director, or appropriate authority with recommended resolutions.
• Performance Management: Set goals, conduct performance reviews, provide regular feedback, and manage the performance of direct reports, recognizing strong performance and addressing performance gaps promptly and constructively.
• Career Development & Mentoring: Mentor and develop project engineers along the Level I to Level VI progression, establishing individual development plans, supporting training and certification, and building bench strength and succession within the team.
• Process Improvement: Identify and implement improvements to project engineering workflows (submittal turnaround, RFI / FCR resolution, CWP development, documentation) and capture lessons learned for application across disciplines and future project phases.
• Additional tasks as delegated by the Construction Manager(s) / Senior Director.
• Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.
• Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
