Qualifications

Summary

Baptist Health Pharmacy teams aim to optimize medication use with advanced technology and skilled personnel to enhance clinical outcomes and community health in a value-based setting. The Community Pharmacy Manager's primary role includes customer service, managing pharmacy staff, and serving as the Pharmacist in Charge (KY) or Qualifying Pharmacist (IN) for the Community Pharmacy Board permit. Responsibilities of the Community Pharmacy Manager encompass overseeing all pharmacy operations according to accredited policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements at state and federal levels. This role includes managing medication procurement, storage, preparation, and prescription fulfillment, ensuring high-quality patient care and operational efficiency. The Community Pharmacy Manager operates in a dynamic environment, requiring teamwork, leadership, and adaptability. Key duties also involve supervising pharmacy workflows, including prescription delivery, mail order services, technician training, and addressing operational challenges. For 340B sites, the Community Pharmacy Manager maintains comprehensive knowledge of the 340B program to ensure compliance. Additionally, collaboration with the Ambulatory Pharmacy Care Team facilitates the development and implementation of programs that promote safe, effective, and cost-efficient medication therapies for optimal patient outcomes.

• Demonstrates high level of competency for all community pharmacist functions and responsible for oversight of pharmacy operations and personnel.
• Responsible for staffing in the community pharmacy as required by the Board of Pharmacy.
• Evaluates performance of community pharmacy personnel, providing regular counseling on performance and sharing documentation of exemplary and unsatisfactory work.
• Directs the orientation, training, and continuing education of all community pharmacy staff.
• Plans expenditures according to budget guidelines and recommends resources needed for the department.
• Ensures compliance with Baptist Health policies, 340B program (if applicable), accrediting bodies, REMS compliance, third party payers (including audits), and state and federal regulations.
• Maintains appropriate licensure for the pharmacy (e.g., DEA registration, state pharmacy license, non-resident permits if applicable).
• Supports pharmacy enrollments (e.g., NPI, Medicare, Medicaid, third party insurers).
• Oversees record retention in accordance with Baptist Health policies and state and federal regulations.
• Ensures adequate control and documentation of controlled substance ordering, receiving, inventory management, and dispensing in compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Completes monthly review of OIG and GSA exclusion reporting for all direct reports to ensure appropriate action is taken to maintain compliance.
• Ensure all pharmacy staff complete annual Fraud, Waste and Abuse and HIPAA training and oversees compliance.
• Coordinates the development and implementation of strategies to eliminate or minimize medication errors.
• Reviews monthly quality reporting and completes quarterly review, root cause analysis, implementing corrective actions as needed.
• Assesses the medication management system for risk points and identifies strategies to improve safety through regular team meetings.
• Plans education programs based on needs identified from quality assessment activities.
• Ensures integrity of medications by assuring storage under proper conditions (e.g., refrigeration) and security.
• Monitors drug shortages and implement solutions to avoid therapy delays.
• Ensures immunizations protocols are reviewed/updated annually, and all immunizers have current training including BLS CPR certification.
• Leads quarterly department business review with system pharmacy leadership and Director of Community Pharmacy.
• Ensures prompt and friendly service with the patient’s well-being as the number one priority when performing all functions and duties.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in pharmacy required.

• Graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy.

• Master's or Doctorate of Pharmacy preferred.

• 1 year of work-related experience required.

• Pharmacy management experience preferred.

• Kentucky and/or Indiana Board of Pharmacy license in good standing based on site requirements. Licensure in surrounding states might be necessary/preferred to fulfill job responsibilities.

• Life Support Training or Certification (ACLS, BLS, PALS, etc.)

• Must obtain Immunization certificate within 6 months.
