Manager, Community Relations – Low Carbon

Competitive Power Ventures, Inc. (“CPV”), with headquarters in Silver Spring, MD, and offices in Braintree, MA and Sugar Land, TX, is a leading clean energy company leveraging global technology and financial partnerships to help modernize America’s power generation.

CPV is looking for a Manager of Community Relations to support the Company’s CPV Low Carbon Generation business. This position is located in the Greater Boston, MA area, and reports to the Director of Corporate Communications as part of CPV’s External Affairs team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading community relations and communications strategies in conjunction with CPV’s Low Carbon and Asset Management teams for projects in development and operation throughout the United States. The ideal candidate possesses strong communication and interpersonal skills with a deep understanding of the energy industry along with experience in stakeholder engagement.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive stakeholder engagement strategies and plans to support projects at all stages including development through operation.
  • Craft and implement annual charitable donation plans for all projects in coordination with development and asset management teams.
  • Identify key stakeholders, including community groups, local governments, regulatory agencies, and business partners.
  • Represent the External Affairs team as our primary community relations interface with the Low Carbon team to help meet business objectives.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with various stakeholders, including local officials, business leaders, landowners, and community members.
  • In collaboration with the development team, proactively identify potential issues and develop strategies to mitigate risks and address stakeholder concerns.
  • Develop project presentation materials such as mailers, digital content, and frequently asked questions, etc.
  • Manage external public relations firms to ensure consistent messaging, optimized outreach and ongoing, positive relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Maintain quality control for all deliverables.
  • Coordinate, lead, and attend community events including open houses and informational sessions.
  • Support overall Corporate Communications initiatives and activities, as needed.

Basic Qualifications

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are required. An ability to work in a collaborative team environment is a must.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Policy, Political Science or other related field is strongly preferred. Graduate degree in any of these fields is highly desirable.
  • Minimum five (5) + years’ experience working on communications and public outreach for energy-related projects; or applicable large infrastructure projects.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing stakeholder relationships and navigating complex development environments.
  • Communication experience in community relations, political campaigns, or public relation agencies.
  • Ability to draft communications, presentations, and documents to assist with development of projects.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, self-starter able to manage several tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment with an emphasis on accurate and economic execution.
  • Exhibit a professional demeanor that aligns with CPV core values.
  • Ability to travel – 30-40%.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background and financial credit check.
