Manager, Communications and Strategic Operations

Catalytic Impact Foundation (CIF) is a mission-driven, 501(c)(3) organization that advances innovation in health and life sciences to address areas of high unmet medical need. CIF aggregates philanthropic capital to invest in early-stage companies creating transformative solutions with the potential for significant impact, particularly in underfunded areas such as women’s health, brain health (including mental health), children’s health, rare disease, aging and health equity. CIF is also committed to supporting women entrepreneurs, who receive less than 3% of venture capital funding in the U.S., with more than half of CIF’s portfolio companies led by women.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced self-starter as Manager, Communications and Strategic Operations to lead our communications efforts, and to support investment management, impact reporting, event planning, and fundraising, as well as some operations support. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in a growing nonprofit that works to fill the innovation funding gap in healthcare, blending the tools and discipline of venture capital with the values and impact of philanthropy.

The “Manager, Communications” part of the position is new, and provides the opportunity to for the person to strategically design, build and grow this area of the organization. This will be roughly 60% of the position’s focus, with operations support being the other 40%. We are looking for someone who is entrepreneurial, goal oriented, resourceful, and creative, and who will take programmatic ownership of the communications/marketing effort.

Key Responsibilities

Communications

  • Develop and distribute a quarterly newsletter to keep stakeholders informed and engaged.
  • Manage and expand CIF’s presence across social media platforms.
  • Secure speaking engagements for CIF leadership at relevant conferences and events.
  • Design and produce CIF’s Annual Impact Report, showcasing achievements and insights.
  • Update and manage CIF’s website content to ensure current and relevant information.
  • Identify opportunities to contribute thought leadership articles to relevant publications and outlets.
  • Be creative in developing new initiatives to raise CIF’s profile and build its brand recognition.

Event Planning

  • Support the planning and execution of CIF-hosted events, including designing invitations, managing guest lists/invitations, assisting with sponsor outreach, and coordinating logistics.
  • Launch and manage “Catalytic Conversations,” a planned webinar series featuring expert opinion leaders from the CIF network and beyond.

Investment Management Support

  • Prepare and update Impact Reports for each portfolio company.
  • Maintain and update the investment management platform (Airtable-based) to ensure accurate and up-to-date records, including overseeing the annual portfolio company questionnaires.
  • Participate in due diligence meetings with prospective companies, and with the following discussions and analysis.
  • Conduct research to support due diligence on specific companies.
  • Work with vendor to oversee state charitable solicitation filings and compliance.
  • Conduct research to identify potential partners or funding sources.
  • Draft and submit grant proposals, tracking deadlines and requirements.
  • Participate in the design and development of fundraising presentations.

Qualifications

  • 3–7 years of experience in communications, operations, nonprofit, healthcare and/or fundraising
  • Strong writing and design skills (e.g., newsletters, reports, articles, web content, social media)
  • Proficiency with LinkedIn, Mailchimp, Airtable, Canva and Google Suite
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail
  • A passion for healthcare innovation and social impact
  • Experience with grant writing is a plus

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000 (commensurate with experience)
  • Fully Remote (with limited travel, mostly to NYC)
