Job summary

Texas Children’s Hospital seeks a Manager of Clinical Documentation Integrity to lead the CDI program, collaborate with physician groups and Revenue Advisors, and drive clinical quality improvements. The role includes training CDS staff, performing tertiary account reviews, and generating data-driven processes for efficiency.

The manager will coordinate with Coding and Quality teams, oversee audits, and guide staff through education opportunities, with responsibilities across program development

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • RN license and AHIMA/AAFP certifications preferred.
  • 4 years of clinical documentation experience; 7 years in acute care; supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform concurrent and retrospective tertiary reviews on opportunities.
  • Analyze data and reports to identify CDI improvement opportunities.
  • Lead training and orientation for new CDSs.
  • Coordinate with IS on tooling and software updates.
  • Lead CDI and Coding team huddles and meetings.
  • Provide feedback and education for CDI staff and physicians.
  • Support physician engagement and education initiatives.
  • Oversee staff competencies and evaluate performance.
  • Analyze data for CDI program reporting.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform concurrent and retrospective tertiary level reviews on specific types of opportunities.
  • Run and review reports through several sources and utilizing information to analyze data and key metrics to identify potential opportunities for CDI staff and physicians, strategize approach and process refinements to capture opportunity within the CDS team (prioritization, assignment, etc.), and track progress of CDI team in capturing opportunities and prioritizing workload effectively.
  • Develop and oversee new hire training and orientation programs for new CDSs.
  • Track technology issues with process tools and coordinate with IS on updates.
  • Track query escalation process, CDS/Coder collaboration, etc. Lead weekly huddles or monthly meetings for CDI and Coding teams.
  • Provide feedback and educational growth opportunities for the overall CDI program.
  • Provide feedback to physician advisor(s) on provider engagement/response.
  • Support the creation and presentation of targeted physician education.
  • Manages, ensures competencies, and evaluates the activities of assigned staff.
  • Reporting and analysis of data for CDI program.

  • RN - Lic-Registered Nurses by the Texas Board of Nursing or Nursing Licensure Compact
  • RHIA - Cert-Reg Health Inform. Admins by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
  • RHIT - Cert-Reg Health Inform. TECH by the American Health Information Management Association
  • CCS - Cert-Cert Coding Specialist by the American Health Information Management Association
  • CPC - Cert-Cert Professional Coder by the America Association of Professional Coders
  • CCDS DOC - Cert-Cert Clinical Doc. SPCLST by the Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists
  • CDIP - Cert-Clinical Doc. Impr. PROF by the American Health Information Management Association
  • Required 4 years clinical documentation experience, 7 years clinical experience in an acute care setting, with preferred supervisory experience
