Job summary

GEO Corrections & Detentions is seeking a Classification Manager to oversee the Classification Department, supervise Case Managers, and provide counseling to detainees on work, housing, and program options. The role supports detainee adjustment within the facility and ensures proper referrals for services.

The position requires leadership experience, knowledge of classification plans and ACA standards, and the ability to prepare reports and communicate effectively.

Qualifications

• Five years in caseload management of offenders in a correctional setting; supervisor experience preferred.
• Knowledge of the Agency's Classification Plan, court orders/decrees, ACA standards related to classification.
• Ability to prepare written reports and communicate effectively; learn rules, regulations, security procedures.

Responsibilities

• Operates the Classification Department; supervises Case Managers; counsels detainees on work, housing, adjustment, and program options.
• Discusses detainee requests for transfer, job changes, furloughs, promotions; refer cases accordingly.
• Determine detainee eligibility for programs beneficial to their adjustment; monitor custody, housing, job, and program assignments.
• M ake referrals to professional counseling for detainees with serious problems; maintain classification review forms.
• Review activity plans to ensure standards; collaborate with other departments to identify needed detainee workers.
• Review detainee medical status to determine eligibility for jobs; manage use of computer applications for education/habilitative programs.
• Maintain ACA standards compliance regarding classification, records, detainee job assignments, and orientation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Summary:

Responsible for the operation of the Classification Department. Supervises the Case Managers and provides counseling services, assists the detainees in adjusting to institutional life and in selecting appropriate self‑help, therapeutic, educational and/or vocational programs; and to obtain needed services or changes in assignment. Serves as a member of the Institutional Reclassification Committee.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supervises the operation of the Classification Department.
• Provides individual counseling to detainees on an informal basis regarding work and housing assignments, adjustment problems, and family problems.
• Discusses with detainees requests for transfer, job changes, furloughs, promotions, etc. and refers cases as deemed appropriate.
• Determines detainee eligibility for programs and if such programs would be beneficial to the detainees overall adjustment to the facility.
• Monitors detainees custody, housing, job and program assignments to ensure all detainees are reviewed in a timely manner.
• Makes referrals for detainees with serious problems to professional counseling staff.
• Updates facility classification review forms.
• Reviews detainee activity plans developed by Classification Counselors to ensure they meet standards.
• Works closely with other departments to determine areas needing additional detainee workers.
• Reviews detainee medical status to determine detainees eligibility to work in job assignments.
• Responsible for use of computer application to record educational/habilitative programs.
• Responsible for maintaining and complying with ACA standards pertaining to classification, records, detainee job assignments, and unit orientation.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Five (5) years in caseload management of offenders in a correctional setting. Experience as a Supervisor preferred. Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, sociology, or a closely related field is desirable; however, a Bachelor's degree in other fields is acceptable; or four (4) years correctional experience or certified law enforcement officer experience with minimum high school diploma or GED certificate.
• Must be knowledgeable of the Agency's Classification Plan, applicable court orders or decrees, and ACA standards which relate to classification.
• Ability to prepare written reports; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and to learn rules, regulations, and security procedures required by the facility.
• Must possess an active, valid driver's license.
• Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age or older.
• Must be a United States Citizen.
