Who We Are

Boston Consulting Group partners with leaders in business and society to tackle their most important challenges and capture their greatest opportunities. BCG was the pioneer in business strategy when it was founded in 1963. Today, we help clients with total transformation‑inspiring complex change, enabling organizations to grow, building competitive advantage, and driving bottom‑line impact.

To succeed, organizations must blend digital and human capabilities. Our diverse, global teams bring deep industry and functional expertise and a range of perspectives to spark change. BCG delivers solutions through leading‑edge management consulting along with technology and design, corporate and digital ventures—and business purpose. We work in a uniquely collaborative model across the firm and throughout all levels of the client organization, generating results that allow our clients to thrive.

What You’ll Do

As a Manager – BCG Vantage on our Topic Activation path within BCG's Risk & Compliance Practice Area, you will deliver against the client and commercial priorities for the Markets & Commodities Trading businesses and across Financial Risk more broadly, under the leadership of the Financial Risk Director. In your role, you will drive the agenda for digital solutions and assets (e.g., Intellectual Property, products and tools – many GenAI-enabled), with the support from the broader global topic team, and lead execution of innovation and asset development projects.

As a Manager – BCG Vantage, you will leverage your individual expertise to deliver differentiated insights and create meaningful value for BCG clients and case teams. You will contribute to client engagements and proposals by providing relevant analysis, perspectives, and expertise, helping case teams develop impactful, tailored solutions. As part of client engagements, occasional travel may be required to work onsite, deepen your understanding of client needs, and support the design and delivery of solutions.

You will also support the commercialization and growth of the relevant topic/sector in partnership with business leaders. This will include contributing expertise and insights to proposals, client workshops, and marketing materials, as well as supporting business development and go‑to‑market initiatives for the Markets & Commodities Trading business in the Energy, Agricultural and Metals & Mining sectors through targeted research, analysis, and market‑facing activities. You will also own analysis and asset‑development workstreams in close partnership with the global topic team and case teams. Your role will be an individual contributor role without direct reports.

The Risk & Compliance Practice Area helps clients to manage key risks strategically, to advance organizational resilience and establish a profound risk culture, by defining and transforming Risk & Compliance operating models. We cover a diverse set of topics across financial and non‑financial risks and assist in enabling clients’ strategy through technical enablement with the help of our deep expertise in risk modelling, analytics and digitization.

Our commodity risk management and trading risk client work has expanded from utilities and oil and gas producers to metals and mining operations, agribusiness, and other industrials. We also assist merchant traders and banks as well as commodities exchanges, brokers, data providers, and government agencies.

Our global team of experienced trading risk consultants helps commodities traders in each of those industries capitalize on market conditions to create value through updated strategies, operating models, portfolios, IT systems, and more.

Our approach includes: Developing marketing, sourcing, and trading strategies and business models to manage risks in commodity trading, implementing commodity risk management operating models including governance, organization, business and risk processes, and IT systems, promoting cross‑industry expertise, tools, and perspectives to provide enhanced insights and capabilities, transferring knowledge and ownership to clients’ commodity trading and risk management organizations and assessing trading performance through proprietary benchmarking tools.

YOU'RE GOOD AT

  • Asset development: ability to develop assets for commodity risk management end‑to‑end and ensure on‑time delivery with highest standards of quality.

  • Analysis, Programming & Modeling: Proficiency in data modeling, statistical analysis, working knowledge of Excel (advanced), SQL and Python/R/Matlab for modeling and running simulations.

  • Data Tools & Platforms: Competency in using Bloomberg, Refinitiv, or similar platforms for data gathering and market monitoring, specifically for commodities.

  • Market Research: Ability to monitor and interpret trends in global markets and to produce regular market outlook reports, price forecasts and strategic insights.

  • Trading & Risk Management: working knowledge of hedging instruments (futures, options, swaps) and risk metrics relevant to commodity portfolios, familiarity with the commodity subset they cover.

  • Client Interaction and collaboration: Working collaboratively and effectively with case teams and clients (often virtual), proficient in agile ways of working.

  • Communication: Ability to synthesize complex data into actionable insights for non‑technical audiences and communicate with case teams and clients in a credible and confident way.

  • Adaptability: Flexibility in working across fast‑changing market conditions and shifting client or business needs, with a curious and creative mindset, and able to propose innovative ideas.

What You’ll Bring

  • 4+ years of relevant experience in commodities trading or risk management, from consulting or industry (consulting preferred).

  • Bachelor's Degree in a quantitative field required (advanced degree preferred), preferably Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or economics degree.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including fluency in English (optional: German, Italian, Spanish).

  • Solid understanding of commodity and financial markets and core risk concepts (e.g. VaR)

  • Hands‑on modeling skills in Python.

  • Hands‑on experience using AI tools in analysis and asset development (e.g., Lovable, LightGBM)

  • Direct experience of trading strategy, target operating models, trading risk frameworks or trading IT architecture (preferred).

  • Ability to build or critically review Monte‑Carlo simulations and valuations (preferred).
