Manager, Athletics Communications

Overview

Brown University Athletics & Recreation seeks a collaborative, organized, and creative communications professional to manage the day-to-day operations of Athletics Communications. The role oversees the execution of communications efforts that promote Brown’s 38 varsity athletics programs and recreation initiatives while ensuring timely, accurate, and consistent messaging across digital and traditional media platforms.

Responsibilities
  • Support storytelling, media relations, and departmental communications to enhance the visibility and reputation of Brown Athletics & Recreation.
  • Manage websites, content management systems, and social media platforms to ensure timely, engaging, and accurate digital communications.
  • Produce high‑quality work with strong editorial judgment and a commitment to accuracy and continuous improvement.
  • Utilize industry–standard communications tools, including Adobe Creative Suite, photography, video, and graphic design resources to support storytelling and brand engagement.
  • Use social media analytics, website metrics, and other digital performance data to evaluate communications effectiveness and inform future content strategies.
  • Apply knowledge of NCAA Division I athletics, Ivy League Conference, higher education, and intercollegiate athletics communication needs.

  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to tailor messaging to diverse audiences while maintaining professionalism, accuracy, and brand consistency.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong editorial judgment, attention to detail, and commitment to accuracy and continuous improvement.
  • Effective use of social media analytics, website metrics, and digital performance data.
  • Knowledge of athletics‑related media relations, statistical reporting, game operations, and event communications.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 3–5 years of experience in athletics communications, sports information, media relations, public relations, or a related communications field.
