Job description

Provide day-to-day oversight to the Assistant Project Manager (APM) and Drafter-Detailer (DD) team, providing team leadership, workflow management, ongoing operational improvement, with emphasis on resourcing, technical advising, and professional development.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $85,000-105,000 yearly. Compensation beyond this range may be considered, depending on specific experience.

    • The dynamic nature of the live events industry requires flexibility to work overtime, including early mornings, evenings and weekends, as dictated by project schedules and client needs.
  • Plan and assign resources to projects with the goal of providing a balanced workload for the team that includes a focus on “how we can approach and accomplish” the work.
  • Leverage technical design expertise to be an advisor to the team for materials, resources, and technical design within budget.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for CAD digital workflow, organization, tech support, and customization processes.
  • Manage direct reports and their activities. This includes overall performance management; training and development; analyzing and resolving work problems.
  • Oversee the hiring and orienting of new Assistant Project Managers (APM) and Drafter Detailers (DD) team members.
  • Lead team to achieve goals; promote and demonstrate effective communication and positive culture with the team, particularly focused on collaboration between APM/DD roles and the shop floor, project managers and account managers.
  • Establish team goals with leadership to meet or exceed performance expectations and develop a strategy for process improvement.
  • Be a role model that is positive and proactive towards challenges, while living ATOMICs core values.
  • Participate in the yearly budgeting process with leadership.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing appropriate standards and procedures and complying with those established by the Safety Committee.
Organizational Relationships

The Manager, Assistant Project Managers and Drafter-Detailers reports to the Director of Technical Design and works closely with Project Managers, Operations Managers, Floor Leads and Account Managers with custom fabrication.

  • Basic understanding of set construction and rigging.
  • Knowledge of theater terms and operations.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes.

  • Ability to see and communicate the big picture and strategy.
  • Advanced skills in Vectorworks or other CAD programs.
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of materials.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Strong inter-personal skills with the ability to work with many personality types.
  • Written and verbal interpersonal and team communication skills; strong listening skills.
  • Ability to take ideas from inception to fulfillment.
  • Ability to manage conflict.
  • Basic understanding of finance and budget development/management skills
Credentials and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Direction or related field with minimum of 5-years’ experience in Technical Design and 2+years’ experience leading a team and in a leadership role.
  • Maintain current passport and if applicable current driver’s license / clean driving record.
Physical Requirements

Ability to perform typical office tasks using a computer and phone in a typical office environment.

  • Typical office environment for the majority of the time with occasional work outdoors or in event venues.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the year, both domestically and internationally.
