Netflix Houses are our permanent, always-on, constantly refreshable entertainment venues, where guests can step into their favorite stories. We want these experiences, along with dining and merchandise offerings, to help promote love for our titles so they become part of the zeitgeist for longer periods of time and drive long-term value for Netflix.

As Manager, Art Direction, you will act as our in-house art direction lead for Experiences, translating the creative big idea from concept into buildable, real designs, all the way through production and delivery. You will closely collaborate with the project Creative Manager and project Producer, and play a hands-on role in providing the design details that support our creative vision, feeding the many creative agencies, consultants, and partners to achieve best-in-class experiences for our guests. You will shape creative briefs and leverage your deep knowledge of environmental design, production methods, operational excellence, and schedule and budget factors to bring the creative vision to life. You will also be a strategic leader when it comes to finding new and innovative ways to showcase IP in surprising and delightful ways.

What You Will Do

  • Act as a key partner to the Creative Manager and Producer in charge to by advancing concepts and design details in early design phases, as well as to develop, supervise and implement the creative vision for Netflix House
  • Deliver layouts, illustrations, drawings or 3D models to document decisions and creative ideas as outcomes of team discussions
  • Evangelize and translate the Netflix House brand purpose, brand visual identity, and experiential pillars into the day-to-day art direction details to ensure a creative throughline; be able to articulate the “why” behind our design decisions across various internal and external partners
  • Collaborate with the Production Designer to define and realize proof-of-concept mockups
  • Develop art direction packages & reference materials for external vendors from design through production phases in order to articulate the design direction clearly at all working levels. This may include: mood boards, material references, texture references, color design, graphics design, redlined shop drawings
  • Work with cross-functional leads to protect the Creative connective thread to all other workstreams, including Marketing, Operations, Retail, Food & Beverage, & Attraction Production
  • Be onsite to oversee creative excellence during the construction, installation, & programming phase on site
  • Benchmark new and existing attractions, visit relevant trade shows and attend seminars to always be on the forefront of innovation and new directions for our industry

What We Need From You

  • Demonstrated, 10+ years of creative design experience in the architectural design, environmental design, hospitality design, exhibition design, theatrical design, or location based entertainment industry, with a strong combination of practical field and leadership experience
  • Must have experience working with both temporary and long-lasting environments
  • Demonstrated experience in applying brand strategy & visual identity into principles of design and actual design direction
  • A keen understanding of IP in environmental design, and various applications of IP in design
  • A dynamic portfolio demonstrating strong experience in graphic design, color design, and building comprehensive art direction packages that have resulted in a body of best-in-class creative & experiential projects
  • A portfolio of diverse and different design styles showcasing a desire to try out new things
  • A passion to innovate, finding new ways of creating emotional connection to our guests, and to break the norm
  • Skilled deployment of digital design tools such as Sketch Up, Maya, Blender, Revit, Rhino; plus design/illustration tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, In-Design, etc. (note: we’re not bound to a specific program)
  • In-depth knowledge of production methods and materials, finishes
  • Ability to make difficult (yet informed) decisions, always in the best interest of Netflix
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and digitally
  • Excellent organizing skills using digital tools and Google suite
  • Global experience preferred

Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $170,000 - $360,000.

Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs. Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off.
