You’ll oversee critical laboratory programs, methods, and projects while building an inclusive, high-performing team that is aligned to our strategy and values.

At Phillips 66, Lead Forward is our leadership approach. It defines how leaders show up, make decisions, and support their teams while delivering results in a complex, fast‑changing environment. • Own the planning, prioritization, and delivery of analytical projects and service contracts, ensuring resources are aligned, timelines are met, and stakeholders clearly understand progress and outcomes.
  • Guide the design, execution, and continuous improvement of analytical methods, laboratory workflows, and the Analytical Solutions Quality Program so that data integrity, reliability, and regulatory expectations are consistently met and decisions are grounded in robust data.
  • Partner across research, operations, and commercial teams to understand analytical needs, translate them into clear scopes of work, remove roadblocks, and co‑create solutions that balance the needs of multiple stakeholders.
  • Champion a culture of experimentation, learning, and continuous improvement, encouraging the team to test new ideas, adapt to changing priorities, and navigate ambiguity while staying focused on delivering value.
  • Set clear performance and development expectations, provide ongoing coaching and feedback, and create growth opportunities so that individuals and the team build new capabilities and stay ahead of evolving business needs.
  • Steward budgets, equipment, and staffing plans for the analytical solutions area, making thoughtful tradeoffs and transparent decisions that align with strategic priorities and uphold company standards.
  • Communicate complex analytical findings, risks, and recommendations in clear, compelling ways to technical and non-technical audiences, using data and judgment to influence high-quality decisions across the business.
What You’ll Bring - Required
  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related field

  • 3 or more years of experience leading teams and/or managing complex technical projects

  • 3 or more years of formal people‑leadership experience managing scientific or technical teams
  • Experience in the oil and gas industry, including familiarity with ASTM methods, regulatory requirements, and quality management systems
  • Advanced proficiency with analytical techniques such as gas chromatography (GC), mass spectrometry (MS), infrared spectroscopy (IR), and other relevant methods
  • Proven track record of building high‑performing, inclusive teams and leading cross‑functional research, development, or analytical programs from concept through implementation
  • Strong understanding of the chemical properties of petroleum, natural gas, renewable feedstocks, and related finished and intermediate products
