Job summary

Day & Zimmermann is seeking an experienced Manager, Ammo Process Operations for on-site work at Hawthorne Army Depot, NV. The role oversees maintenance, renovation, demilitarization, and related projects, directing supervisors and munitions staff to ensure safety and contract compliance.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, 6+ years in munitions operations, and ability to obtain security clearances including a Nevada driver’s license.

Job description

We're looking for an experienced Manager, Ammo Process Operations .

Reporting to the Director, Ammunition Logistics & Demil Operations, the Manager, Ammo Process Operations manages ammunition maintenance, renovation, modification, conversion, demilitarization, load-assemble-pack, and related special project activities at Hawthorne Army Depot. This position directs assigned supervisors and munitions personnel, maintains operational accountability and reporting, and ensures work is performed safely and in compliance with applicable Company, contract, environmental, explosive safety, and governmental requirements.

Position may require security clearance, consistent with contract requirements and government approval. U.S. or Naturalized citizenship is required.

This position is located on site in Hawthorne, NV.

As the Manager, Ammo Process Operations , here’s the work you’ll do:
  • Plan and manage ammunition process operations, including maintenance, renovation, modification, conversion, demilitarization, load-assemble-pack activities, and special projects such as UXO operations. Align work plans, production priorities, and operational goals with director guidance, contract requirements, approved methods, cost proposals, and SOPs
  • Direct supervisors, munitions handlers, munitions destroyers, surveillance expeditors, UXO personnel, and other assigned staff in the safe disposition, demilitarization, renovation, and upgrade of conventional ammunition and components. Ensure work assignments are made using approved procedures and current directives to support safe and compliant mission execution
  • Maintain operational accountability, production records, and required reports for ammunition processed, disassembled, demilitarized, gained, shipped, or otherwise dispositioned. Review demilitarization status, meteorological data, production schedules, accomplishments, downtime, and corrective actions to support accurate reporting and operational control
  • Coordinate training, qualification, and procedural compliance for assigned employees involved in explosive material, ammunition, hazardous waste, and related operations. Initiate and support updates to Standing Operating Procedures and ensure employees understand and follow applicable safety, environmental, explosive safety, and operational requirements.
  • Manage operational budgets, resource use, facility/equipment maintenance coordination, and process performance for assigned ammunition operations. Identify process failures, production risks, and safety or compliance gaps, and implement corrective actions to support cost control, schedule performance, and safe operating outcomes
  • Report potential or known safety and environmental concerns and uphold Company values, ethical standards, and the Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct. Support related duties consistent with the position scope and business needs while maintaining a safe, compliant, and professional work environment
This role is for you if you have these skills:
  • Ammunition operations knowledge sufficient to manage maintenance, renovation, modification, conversion, demilitarization, LAP, and special project work in accordance with approved procedures and current directives.
  • Explosive safety and environmental compliance knowledge sufficient to ensure work aligns with federal, state, local, Company, contract, hazardous waste, and demilitarization requirements.
  • Operational leadership capability sufficient to schedule, assign, direct, and monitor supervisors, munitions personnel, and UXO resources across high-risk ammunition operations.
  • Production control and budget management capability sufficient to manage overhead and project budgets, monitor production performance, evaluate downtime, and implement corrective action.
  • Records and reporting capability sufficient to maintain accurate ammunition accountability records and compile operational, meteorological, production, demilitarization, and accomplishment reports.
And if you have these qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree in Management, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience, required.
  • 6 years+ of experience in ammunition maintenance, explosives operations, hazardous waste disposal activities, demilitarization, ammunition process operations, or related munitions operations. Management or supervisory experience managing employees, operations, and budgets is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain all certifications required by the Company’s Master Training Plan and applicable ammunition operations requirements.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State of Nevada driver’s license. Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of government security clearance and required Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives clearance.
  • Must be able to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner while performing safety-sensitive duties. Must be able to secure and maintain a Secret clearance.

In compliance with this state’s pay transparency laws, the hourly pay range for this role is $94,960- $142,440. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements).
