Job summary

Invenergy, North America’s largest privately held developer of power infrastructure, seeks an Air Permitting Manager in the Thermal Group. Based in Chicago, you will oversee permitting for greenfield and brownfield projects across the United States, coordinating with consultants and agencies.

You will evaluate technologies, support site evaluation, permit readiness, and manage resources while collaborating with engineering, procurement, and regulatory teams throughout the development lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role and industry.
  • Familiarity with utility-scale air permitting requirements and thermal energy.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel up to 25%.

Job Description
Position Overview

Air Permitting Manager within Invenergy’s Thermal Group, you will be responsible for managing the air permitting for greenfield and brownfield standalone simple cycle and combined cycle combustion turbine projects in the United States. This position can be based in our Chicago headquarters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Managing the air permitting process for a portfolio of development, construction, and operation projects. This role will be the primary interface with our consultants and state/federal agencies for Clean Air Act Major New Source Review Prevention of Significant Deterioration and Nonattainment New Source Review air permitting programs.
  • Evaluate available thermal power generation technologies that may be deployed to meet market needs. Technologies will be dispatchable and utilize natural gas or fuel oil and may include carbon capture.
  • Support market entry analysis, site evaluation, permit ability and acquisition.
  • Perform and manage internal and external resource activities, such as data verification, memos, consultation with customers, site requirements, regulatory submittals, engineering, and environmental permitting.
  • Work collaboratively with the Engineering team and Procurement team for equipment specifications.
  • Report and execute project management throughout the project development lifecycle.
  • Work collaboratively with the Government Affairs and Regulatory team to understand key market drivers on air permitting for project development.
  • Represent Invenergy LLC with customers, state and local officials, industry associations and other stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field of study.
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role and industry.
  • Familiarity with utility‑scale major and minor source air permitting requirements for, as well as thermal energy production and operation.
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel up to 25% of the time to project sites.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong organizational, networking, leadership, and time management skills.
  • Willingness to participate in development activities with local communities.
Base Pay

$120,000.00 - $160,000.00 USD Annual

Bonus: 25% - 40%

The base pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for the position. Invenergy considers a number of factors when determining base pay offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education and skills.
