Job summary

NiSource Inc. in Columbus, Ohio seeks a Manager Accounting Research to lead technical accounting analysis, guide on complex transactions, new standards and financial reporting requirements.

You will research and document positions, develop accounting policies, and partner with FP&A, legal, treasury, regulatory, IT, and other stakeholders to support well-supported conclusions. Responsibilities include preparing and reviewing monthly/quarterly controller's letters for incentives, pensions, AFUDC

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance or related field.
• At least six years of accounting and financial reporting experience.
• Prior supervisory experience in accounting environment.
• Proven ability to lead projects and staff.
• Working knowledge of FASB and SEC reporting requirements.
• Strong coordination across functions.
• Willingness to take on responsibility and challenging work.
• Ability to coordinate projects and manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent written and presentation skills.
• Broad knowledge of leases, pensions, and postretirement benefits, treasury activities and equity-based compensation.

Responsibilities

• Partners with budgeting, financial planning, treasury, regulatory, IT, and tax to align GAAP recognition timing for planned transactions and ad hoc requests.
• Develops position papers on complex accounting issues and new guidance.
• Oversees monthly/quarterly controller's letters (incentive comp, pensions, AFUDC, etc.).
• Gathers cross-functional input and updates accounting policies.
• Supervises and develops staff to build technical accounting excellence.
• Keeps current with FASB and SEC guidance and evaluates impacts for NiSource.
• Networks with industry peers through AGA/EEI technical accounting committees.
• Conducts trainings and delivers summaries on accounting impacts.
